[00:06:26] rakm: or is there a lower level db way of doing this in postgres?

[00:09:47] Miesco: I don't understand.. I set up my domain's zone file to be @ a MY_IP... Does gandi.net take time to update dns?
[00:10:17] Radar: Miesco: DNS can take time to propagate around the web.
[00:10:24] Miesco: The domain was successfully created, though it may only be fully functional after a standard DNS propagation delay of several hours.

[01:37:15] rhizome: first_app/first_app ?

[01:43:33] pontiki: another case of limited thinking
[01:44:23] pontiki: chrispaz: something definitely seems off up there -- you tell rvm to use 1.9.3, but your SO question indicates it's using 2.2.1
[01:45:14] pontiki: the Gemfile looks unmodified from the one you get with rails new; is that the case?
[01:45:15] chrispaz: but my rvm list

[01:48:02] pontiki: what were you bundle installing at your line 238 after you installed it at line 236 in your history above?
[01:48:15] chrispaz: yesterday I installed rails and was UP
[01:48:42] pontiki: what does that mean?
[01:48:55] chrispaz: adter run bundle install
[01:48:58] pontiki: `gem install rails` install rails
[01:49:12] pontiki: `rails new my_app` creates a new rails app
[01:49:35] pontiki: `cd my_app ; bundle install` bundles the gems in your new app
[01:49:47] pontiki: `rails server` sets your rails app UP

[01:51:27] chrispaz: rails s --binding=0.0.0.0
[01:51:44] pontiki: and nothing else since yesterday, with the same command?
[01:51:53] chrispaz: yes the same command
[01:51:53] pontiki: in the same directory?

[01:52:26] chrispaz: Yes inside ..first_app/first_app
[01:52:40] pontiki: here's why i doubt that
[01:53:12] pontiki: if you've done *nothing* else since you quit yesterday and started today, it should work the same way
[01:53:31] beauby_: has joined #RubyOnRails
[01:53:44] pontiki: those 4 commands you listed above make me wonder greatly
[01:54:19] chrispaz: I???m learning so do you think that erase everything and begin again?
[01:54:31] kies^: has joined #RubyOnRails
[01:54:51] pontiki: sometimes that's the easiest way to go. but erasing everything can be tricky, too.
[01:55:08] pontiki: you need to get rid of the application folder, of course
[01:55:13] pontiki: that should be easy
[01:55:17] chrispaz: Some adive to clean up everything?
[01:55:37] pontiki: since you're using rvm, the easiest thing is to just use: `rvm implode`
[01:57:49] sevenseacat: argh brain cmon, work
[01:59:18] sevenseacat: can't figure out how to nicely define logic like the following, with params from a nested model form - create an Account record, create and invite the child User records, but an account must have at least one user
[02:00:03] sevenseacat: its the invite that stuffs things up
[02:00:21] Aeyrix: Yeah that ain't ever gonna be neat.
[02:00:36] chrispaz: I followed this:
[02:00:37] chrispaz: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/24395453/gem-install-debugger-error
[02:00:43] chrispaz: Now it???s up
[02:00:49] chrispaz: but I got a new error
[02:01:13] chrispaz: Sorry no error a kind of warning:
[02:01:18] sevenseacat: chrispaz: something tells me you're just making things up as you go along
[02:01:29] chrispaz: Bundler is using a binstub that was created for a different gem.
[02:01:29] chrispaz: This is deprecated, in future versions you may need to `bundle binstub rails` to work around a system/bundle conflict.
[02:01:30] sevenseacat: why did you have a problem with installing debugger? why were you installing debugger?
[02:02:02] Aeyrix: chrispaz: That's a warning, not an error, and it's incredibly self-explanatory.
[02:02:11] Aeyrix: In short, "who cares right now".
[02:02:18] chrispaz: jajajaj ok thanks
[02:02:31] Aeyrix: #masterproblemsolver
[02:03:16] sevenseacat: aaaaaaaargh please brain work
[02:03:40] sevenseacat: I've done this before, I just don't remember how
[02:04:19] chrispaz: sevemseacat At teh beginnig try to get up Rails and start to search some forums and they said to do: bundle install
[02:04:33] chrispaz: then I got that debug error
[02:04:40] sevenseacat: but you arent using debugger
[02:05:05] chrispaz: then I changed the Gemfile run bundle install and try to get up rails
[02:05:33] pontiki: i've only seen the binstub deprecation when working with an app written with an older version combination of ruby/bundler/rails
[02:05:37] pontiki: never a brand new one
[02:05:48] chrispaz: ok I got it
[02:05:51] sevenseacat: well he did 'change the Gemfile' so who knows
[02:06:10] sevenseacat: ACTION gives up
[02:06:45] rhizome: pontiki: i.e. without having run rake rails:update :)
[02:08:37] chrispaz: If i run `rvm implode`

[03:44:46] pontiki: is line 30 at the wrong indent level?
[03:45:35] pontiki: if not, what's the t object at that point?
[03:45:52] celly: well, i'm using another webapp that i did that used nested forms (although not using simple_form) as a reference
[03:46:06] celly: and it is at that same indentation level
[03:46:07] pontiki: so you basically don't know?

[03:46:38] pontiki: line 28 defines a `t` for use inside that simple_fields

[03:46:58] celly: https://gist.github.com/msands/95d77294e4e389bad8bd
[03:47:08] pontiki: what's that about?
[03:47:11] celly: yeah, i'm still learning
[03:48:07] pontiki: why did you show that second gist?
[03:48:18] nya: has joined #RubyOnRails
[03:48:59] celly: that is the (working) nested form that i'm using to reference the current nested form that i'm trying to get working
[03:49:22] celly: after moving the indentation, i'm now getting an undefined method on link_to_add
[03:49:39] pontiki: so look at the variable on line 30 in the second gist, and compare that to your slim file
[03:50:29] theery: has joined #RubyOnRails
[03:51:26] pontiki: look, i don't *know* that line 30 should be indented. i also don't know what the t on line 30 *unindented* is supposed to refer to

[08:58:08] mikecmpbll: leslie: how're the assets that use the 'old one' being requested?
[08:58:29] mikecmpbll: afaik nothing about the asset_host is cached or has anything to do with precompilation. (might be wrong tho)

[09:00:26] mikecmpbll: also are the requests to the assets hitting a cache?
[09:01:25] leslie: I don't believe so
[09:03:32] mikecmpbll: well it can't be querying an endpoint when there's no reference to that endpoint anywhere. so you need to figure out how it still knows about that old asset host, i guess. or maybe someone with experience of using an asset host has a better idea :).

[17:20:17] workmad3: ght: it used to be allowable in ruby 1.8 (and earlier) days, but it requires so much special-casing in the parser that it got dropped... unfortunately, wrapping arbitrary expressions in () is allowed (e.g. ((1 + 2) - 3) ) so the syntax error comes up from the first , in the list, rather than the list itself

[23:46:23] comm64x: I'm making a project portfolio page and I thought it would be efficient to store values for each project in a json file and use those values to populate a partial. I'd like to use some ruby in the view where the projects would be rendered like for each project in jsonfile do. Is there a better way to do this?

[23:49:16] comm64x: long story short each "project" entry will have the same basic format and I dont want to repeat myself typing that up for eacf project when I could just add some more data to a JSON
