[01:17:49] hfp: I don't get it. When I run my app in production, I get a 500 error. I set the option to consider all requests local so I have the error output in the browser and it says it can't find the table for my model. I made sure to run `rake db:migrate` in production, i deleted the schema.rb to make sure it's recreated and up to date... I don't know where else to look. Any ideas?
[01:19:09] hfp: This is a prototype app running in production mode in a docker container locally so I'm using WEBrick as the webserver and sqlite. I know these aren't meant for heavy traffic and it's fine, it's just to toy around with but I'd like it to run in production mode

[01:24:49] base16: I'm interested in knowing how best to do this: My class has a set(string) method which the application developers use to send me a bunch of messages over the lifetime of request handling. After the response has been sent back to the user I want my class to be able to publish these set of strings to a store. This is very similar to logging so should I be thinking about adding a middleware for a new logger? Is there another way?
[01:26:44] ruurd: has joined #RubyOnRails
[01:26:53] base16: The difference from a typical logging to what I describe above is the reference to the store. It's going to be a remote call so I want this to not hold back back the response. I want this to happen after the response has been sent back to the caller of the HTTP request, if that makes sense..
[01:26:56] base16: Any ideas?

[10:08:24] _lazarevsky__: and I was able to use rails asset tags easily there
[10:08:44] workmad3: _lazarevsky__: yes, that's because the asset pipeline uses tilt, which pays attention to handlers to determine which engines to process a file through
[10:08:47] workmad3: _lazarevsky__: you're not

[12:36:21] rvanlieshout: andywww: what exactly is your question? :)
[12:36:35] rvanlieshout: and why does your scheme show a doctor_id for a patient and no arrow there?
[12:36:51] andywww: i fisted that schema together for the sake of example
[12:36:57] rvanlieshout: the difference between has_one and belongs_to is just the place for the foreign key
[12:36:57] matthewd: andywww: It doesn't look unreasonable as is, to me... but otherwise, you could use a polymorphic has_one in the other direction
[12:37:09] rvanlieshout: doctor has_one :profile makes sense

[12:37:38] rvanlieshout: andywww: where you want it to go. if you want it in profile i would make it a polymorphic association

[12:38:04] rvanlieshout: it would has_one :profile
[12:38:16] rvanlieshout: and profile belongs_to :doctor and profile belongs_to :patient
[12:38:25] rvanlieshout: but any solution is fine here
[12:38:35] andywww: well, each of the two types of people ???have one??? profile don???t they
[12:38:58] rvanlieshout: both doctor and patient would have a has_one :profile here
[12:39:00] andywww: a doctor has one profile

[12:39:07] andywww: a patient has one profile

[18:54:08] matthewd: craysiii: From memory, it was controversial because it's native
[18:54:11] lxsameer: matthewd: the problem is that ruby tries to evaluate the url helper inside the block even before we call the block

[19:07:37] greenride: matthewd: Right. The command line util does the dns lookup of the MX record at the specified domain, opens a tcp connection to the mail server and then delivers the mail. Not scaleable??? but great for delivering a few emails.

[21:16:59] smathy: capin, the date of the last release isn't the only metric that you should check, some gems are just really stable.
[21:17:12] smathy: Take a look at the sorts of issues that are open, and the team's responses to those issues.
[21:17:21] pragmatism: Lol you reading up Smathy?
[21:17:50] smathy: capin, responses to PRs too, that's a big teller. Especially if important bugs are solved in PRs that were never merged.
[21:18:03] smathy: capin, and quality of documentation is another big thing.
[21:18:12] capin: well it looks like paperclip is actively being developed by thoughtbot, and their github page sure does seem like it has a lot more docs
[21:18:29] smathy: Sorry pragmatism, I didn't notice that you were talking to capin

[21:31:28] xtagon: rhizome: yes indeed, I use it without processing
[21:32:13] capin: xtagon: yeah i rolled my own file upload solution a while back, but it works through the webbrowser not an API, and the attachments are stored in the DB
[21:33:25] xtagon: You mean the full binary of the file is stored in the database in a column?
[21:33:34] capin: speaking of rolling your own, i think its time for a cigarette

[21:46:08] jenrzzz_: has joined #RubyOnRails
[21:46:45] choke: I kinda looked at that, i'm using paperclip for my image uploads as it allows me to upload directly to amazon s3 buckets. the delayed_paperclip gem, requires delayed_job, resque or sidekiq. DJ is out, because I don't use ActiveRecord ( in favor of mongodb via mongoid )...
[21:47:16] xtagon: Rescue and Sidekiq both use Redis to store jobs
[21:47:18] brandonshowers: has joined #RubyOnRails
[21:47:31] Macaveli: back up restored
[21:47:33] Macaveli: everything fine
[21:48:33] choke: 2Which is fine, because I use redis within the api itself -- complete with the external redis server with 60 gigs of memory
[21:48:50] Shoutsid: has joined #RubyOnRails
[21:49:05] xtagon: If you use Sidekiq you may need to set a namespace for the redis keys in the Sidekiq config, not sure about Rescue
[21:49:21] xtagon: So that things don't conflict with any keys you have for your app
[21:50:08] choke: Rescue i noticed, and maybe i'm wrong and this is one of my main reasons for this information gathering, is i have to manually run a terminal command in order for the queue to even begin -- which kinda defeats the purpose for the end goal
[21:50:41] xtagon: All background workers for Rails need to run their own process to work on jobs, yes
[21:50:44] tubbo: choke: well you're only supposed to run that once, like when your app starts. it's like a secondary server that only works with the job queue
[21:50:48] xtagon: All that I know of anyway
[21:51:48] xtagon: Your Rails app puts the job into Redis, and your Resque or Sidekiq worker process (or processes, if you have multiple) take items out as they need more work to do
[21:53:08] choke: ahh okay tubbo that makes sense
[21:53:40] tubbo: choke: fwiw we use dragonfly for attachments on mongoid. it works wonders :)
[21:53:49] tubbo: refile also can work with mongoid

[21:56:57] choke: hmm, that doesn't work with delayed_paperclip, which is really what i'm looking for being that i use paperclip to handle the image/video uploading to s3, so i think i'm tied to really either resque or sidekiq as thats all it has support for. But maybe i'm not tied to delayed_paperclip, if i want to write my own methods to process it in the background
