[00:18:45] smathy: _lazarevsky_, because /api/impact_groupings?impactGroup=517356196 is going to try to land on the index action for a `resources` based route, but you have `only: [:create, :destroy, :show]`

[00:27:12] Pyro_Killer: hello everyone I have a slight problem, my controller has 2 variables on the index, however when I access the page it seems to use the previous data that was in the variable, does anyone know how to fix that?

[00:29:43] shanemcd_: has joined #RubyOnRails
[00:30:37] Pyro_Killer: so when I reload the page, suddenly it has been rewritten, it's almost as if the controller runs after it render the page
[00:31:29] centrx: Pyro_Killer, Where are "supplier_address" and "supplier_port" coming from?
[00:31:39] Pyro_Killer: ApplicationController
[00:31:54] centrx: Pyro_Killer, If those are the same, might get the same HTTP page
[00:32:12] Pyro_Killer: it always uses the same
[00:32:33] Danielpk: has joined #RubyOnRails
[00:32:40] centrx: Then why would the result be different?
[00:32:52] centrx: The "previous data" is always the same as the "current data"?
[00:32:55] paulodiniz: has joined #RubyOnRails
[00:34:00] Pyro_Killer: Then why does it change to the correct data when I refresh the page?
[00:35:34] smathy: Pyro_Killer, you said that the `supplier_adress` and `supplier_port` variables are always the same, that means that the requests, and therefor the JSON, will always be the same. When you're saying that "[the page] seems to use the previous data" - what do you mean by "previous data"?
[00:36:24] Pyro_Killer: fair point, I just realized a mistake
[00:38:50] Danielpk: Hello guys, any can help me to test Devise custom params with RSpec and shoulda_matchers? My test keep failing with ???any parameters to restrict???. What i already tried: https://gist.github.com/Danielpk/3491d0f560e8e4335f13

[18:51:15] Cache_Money: diegoviola: I like the fact you can store JSON or arrays in a column in PSQL
[18:51:22] Papierkorb: SQLite is really good for what it DOES. That is: Having a fool-proof, ACID compliant and stable single-process (read process as in "no concurrent write access") SQL database without daemons and stuff.
[18:52:14] Papierkorb: diegoviola: SQLite completely tanks however when you need concurrent accesses, or need to scale it (which is impossible to do over multiple machines). SQLite is not for web applications. it's for local applications (for which it is usually really really good)
[18:52:29] shibabu: has joined #RubyOnRails
[18:53:12] Papierkorb: diegoviola: SQLite wants to get rid of "fopen()" calls in applications. It does not aim at driving web applications with thousands of concurrent accesses
[18:53:33] blackmesa: has joined #RubyOnRails
[18:54:17] Papierkorb: diegoviola: Well, and PSQL is much more fully featured. As Cache_Money pointed out, the JSON(B) column and arrays are notable (and useful) features PSQL has over SQLite.
[18:54:52] FailBit: there is an AR adapter for storing unindexed JSON on a model, by treating in the database a string
[18:55:02] FailBit: IIRC, postgres treats the default json type as a string
[18:55:43] Papierkorb: FailBit: It transfers JSON as string, it can store it as string or in binary form (Which is the preferred JSONB column type). You can have indexing and everything on these
[18:56:38] FailBit: that's why I said the default json type
[18:56:43] FailBit: the jsonb type allows for GIN indexes
[18:57:48] Papierkorb: And it works really well. Thank god I don't have to add yet another DB, like MongoDB, to my stack to store 'documents'.

[19:00:42] FailBit: what do you use JSON for?
[19:01:14] mdowd: has joined #RubyOnRails
[19:01:53] Papierkorb: Storing metadata, mainly stuff that is optional, or to do STI without the polymorphism issues. Like, I have Article, and PictureArticle, where the PictureArticle is the same table but stores the data it needs additionally inside a JSON column.
[19:02:26] FailBit: STI makes sense
[19:02:38] FailBit: I mean, JSON makes sense for STI
[19:02:41] FailBit: STI doesn't make sense :P
[19:02:49] user1138: has joined #RubyOnRails
[19:02:53] Papierkorb: Or stuff like the users password reset token (if requested). this data is tightly bound to a user, but is 'rarely' needed, so extra columns would be a waste, but yet another table just for that is also annoying
[19:03:27] FailBit: how many database rows do you have? unused/null rows are typically not that expensive in terms of tuple storage
[19:04:09] Papierkorb: not that much, system-in-development. I just don't like clutter, and to me, something that is rarely needed and yet always there is some kind of clutter
[19:04:28] FailBit: I mean, I'm not going to convince you to switch to a purely relational model but this is just my experience so far
[19:04:36] diegoviola: if sqlite doesn't make too much sense for web apps, why rails defaults to it?
[19:04:44] FailBit: because >rails
[19:04:46] FailBit: >making sense
[19:04:55] Papierkorb: diegoviola: because SQLite is really easy to get up and running, which fits rails description
[19:05:47] kies: has joined #RubyOnRails
[19:06:33] Papierkorb: May be a brave assumption, but I guess that almost every rails app out there isn't really vanilla rails anymore. That's not rails fault. Different teams have different requirements.
