[00:51:06] Schoolmeister: Hey. I've also got quite a strange problem. For a school assignment I'm developing a Rails app on Windows. Everything works when I try it locally. When I deploy it onto the Ubuntu 16.04 server however, I receive a NameError: uninitialized constant error.
[00:52:16] Schoolmeister: I've got a model namen Person and in PeopleController#index I try @people = Person.all
[00:53:01] Schoolmeister: that's where I get an error, even though I'm not getting any locally. Does anyone have a clue as to what it can be? I've tried restarting Nginx and passenger, but to no avail.
[00:55:47] Schoolmeister: I'm guessing it has something to do with the gems installed, but I have no idea which one I would need for it to work.

[01:23:24] helpa: Schoolmeister: What "didn't work"? Did your server not start? Did your computer explode? Did your webpage turn bright pink? Did your client not pay your bill on time? You may have to be more specific. A Gist (http://gist.github.com) of the code that doesn't work (and the error you are getting) will be helpful.
[01:23:31] Radar: show the full error thanks
[01:36:02] Schoolmeister: Alright, I'm sorry. I tried to include as much as possible. https://gist.github.com/schoolmeister/01f663a1adf0481bc078ac4cc8b9fdee
[01:39:56] Schoolmeister: Just noticed that I was first talking about a model Person and a PeopleController, while I sent the errors for the Event model. Same error however, they're two seperate resources which work correctly on Windows. But when I deploy it on the server all pages return that same error.

[02:51:22] centrx: Sounds like it's the app you're viewing the data in
[02:52:14] centrx: lumberjack__: oh it's probably showing you the BigDecimal as a scientific notation
[02:52:24] centrx: lumberjack__: Doesn't mean the number is stored as anything in particular
[02:52:58] lumberjack__: oh, so its just the output in the console not whats actually being stored? interesting
[02:53:57] centrx: >> require 'bigdecimal'; BigDecimal.new(0.35352, 3)

[04:36:37] spicerack: Maybe it's a route issue but my route is according to the docs
[04:36:54] alfiemax: this should be in your routes.rb
[04:36:55] alfiemax: get 'about' => 'pages#about'
[04:37:10] spicerack: sorry i got the words mixed up but that is in my routes.rb
[04:37:14] alfiemax: you are accessing pages/home
[04:37:28] alfiemax: but route you have defined is for /about
[04:37:47] spicerack: No route matches [GET] "/pages/about" also shows
[04:38:07] spicerack: and i defined a controller for about

[04:48:48] Radar: explain why you want to override plz
[04:49:46] irishfromua: has joined #RubyOnRails
[04:50:30] Radar: alfiemax: ?
[04:50:41] alfiemax: ok, so the idea is like this :
[04:51:52] alfiemax: our app was build with a common layout for admins and other business users, now we are updating the UI for our business users(clients) and not the admins
[04:52:38] alfiemax: though most of the actions are not common, the actions in users controller is shared by both types of users
[04:53:58] Radar: can't `render "some/path"` in the controllers?
[04:54:50] alfiemax: i'd have to conditionally specify the template path in each action this way
[04:55:22] alfiemax: so if i could override it for this controller, then it would be a simpler
[04:55:23] Radar: need to go, bbl

[05:14:33] spicerack: the partial is called _text.html.erb
[05:14:37] alfiemax: 1. what is your complete path to your partial?
[05:14:49] spicerack: pages/_text.html.erb
[05:14:54] alfiemax: 2. is there an error or just nothing shown?
[05:15:02] spicerack: no errors shown
[05:15:09] alfiemax: 3. is there any content in the partial?
[05:15:11] spicerack: that would be helpful

[12:11:30] Nicmavr: fox_mulder_cp cool, mind if I PM you?
[12:13:07] fox_mulder_cp: ask here please
[12:13:27] Nicmavr: Basically I have a form for filling in details and it has 2 steps as of now
[12:13:43] Nicmavr: If I do link_to next_wizard_path on the first step, I expect it to generate a link to the second step right?
[12:14:13] Nicmavr: however, it simply links to itself rather than the next step, although the link text itself quotes the next step

[12:15:58] handicraftsman: Hello. How do i use HAML in rails?
[12:16:45] fox_mulder_cp: handicraftsman: drop erb and use rake for migrate erb to haml
[12:16:59] handicraftsman: fox_mulder_cp, ohi
[12:17:46] fox_mulder_cp: Nicmavr: read wicked docs, it have a good describing how to u can do this
[12:18:02] fox_mulder_cp: in wicked - all steps like a controller methods
[12:18:13] Nicmavr: fox_mulder_cp, I did. I followed the example tutorial to the point
[12:18:56] fox_mulder_cp: i drop it from my project half year ago, but it works for me pretty when user register up your account
[12:19:21] Nicmavr: when you want to link to the next wizard step (where the steps are defined in the controller), isn't it next_wizard_step ?
[12:20:13] Nicmavr: *next_wizard_path, sorry
[12:21:49] fox_mulder_cp: Nicmavr: main idea is: open first wizard render. select controls, and post it to first_method in wicked controller
[12:22:11] fox_mulder_cp: in first method if all ok u return redirect to next method and render it
[12:22:26] fox_mulder_cp: else rerender first step
[12:24:27] Nicmavr: fox_mulder_cp, I believe my code does all that ok
[12:24:53] Nicmavr: the problem I'm having is that next_wizard_path isn't linking to the next step even if the text quotes the next step
[12:25:34] platoon23: has joined #RubyOnRails
[12:25:39] Nicmavr: ie. the text generated in the first step page says "/registration/step2" but the actual link links to "registration/step1"
[12:26:02] Nicmavr: this isn't even related to the methods, its merely what the Haml file generates
[12:26:18] Nicmavr: when I do =link_to next_wizard_path
[12:28:26] fox_mulder_cp: seems, that i can't help u. i use rails in only api mode since september 2016, and can't find related code where i use wicked in registration
