[00:55:49] Radar: hi michael_mbp
[00:56:35] michael_mbp: I'm looking at planning to handle concurrency at the stack level, are there any ball-park metrics one should aim for in general? I.e. should a stack _generally_ be capable of say 100 concurrent requests?
[00:56:55] michael_mbp: Looking to see if there's any case-studies on this front.
[00:57:29] michael_mbp: most stacks would have auto-scaling compute instances; the implementation I'm working on doesn't have the financial leeway for that.
[01:01:49] fryguy: michael_mbp: you size capacity based on business needs. That could be 1 concurrent request or 1 million concurrent requests.
[01:02:26] michael_mbp: fryguy: it's meant to be a social platform, at the moment it's pretty hard to plan for that
[01:03:05] michael_mbp: at launch though, I feel we'd need quite a few app instances spooled and ready to go behind the load-balancer.
[01:03:47] michael_mbp: Been doing some tests with siege and Passenger's performance is pretty abismal. Will switch to Unicorn/puma and benchmark.

[02:47:30] jeromelanteri: i'm trying to load a gallery named unitegallery
[02:47:32] jeromelanteri: http://unitegallery.net/index.php?page=documentation#using_the_api
[02:48:08] jeromelanteri: then i do copy this javascript code in vendor/assets/javascript, his css files required in vendor/assets/stylesheet/
[02:48:49] jeromelanteri: then add in application.rb a call for javascript_include_tag when controller of concerned pages load
[02:49:23] jeromelanteri: then add some precompile codes in config/initializer/assets.rb
[02:49:53] jeromelanteri: hen do remove, clean and precompile from rake command in production mode (running through nginx/passenger serveur)
[02:50:43] jeromelanteri: and add correct code html surrounding tags div and images (i can see on firefox firebug apps that the html page correspond with the model and check that model is same on exemples of unitegallery
[02:51:22] jeromelanteri: add the javascript (converted in coffeescript code) in my app/asset/photos.coffee file like application gallery need
[02:51:48] jeromelanteri: check that javascripts codes need are well load in the header part of the html rendered page
[02:51:58] gusrub: has joined #RubyOnRails
[02:52:37] jeromelanteri: but... can see the {display: none;} div with images present and images exist (if remove display: none i can see them)
[02:54:06] jeromelanteri: but the gallery doesn't apear and the javascript code has to modify the html tags container by add class names for make running things.. it does not, looks like the code from $(document).ready -> $(#gallery).unitegallery() doesn't run
[02:54:18] jeromelanteri: i can not understand why.
[02:54:50] jeromelanteri: would you like a copy paste of my codes parts in concern for try to help me on that (if you have time) ?
[02:55:06] jeromelanteri: rails-4.2.8 is running well
[02:55:33] jeromelanteri: pages load, other javascript/jquery codes running fine... only this one doesn't works actually
[02:57:05] jeromelanteri: oh... i also do rm files from public/assets recursively, then rake assets:clean and rakke assets:precompile... restart nginx server...
[02:57:24] jhfisc: has joined #RubyOnRails
[02:58:16] jeromelanteri: doesn't works but javascript is loaded in header html page, can see my photos.coffe code loaded (but maybe not running well... i don't know), html tags div and images correspond to exemple provide for make running the gallery...
[02:58:22] jeromelanteri: what can be wrong ?
[02:58:27] jeromelanteri: i forget something ?

[03:26:00] jeromelanteri: fryguy, the problem has to do directly with rails by: "how to make running javascript gallery code on rails-4 ?" The javascript code without rails works perfectly as you can see if you test it with own unitegallery exemples...
[03:26:41] jeromelanteri: so i am not able to knwo exactly what i have to do more (what i'm forgeting) for make this javascript code running with rails-4
[03:27:07] jeromelanteri: fryguy, would you like to help ?
[03:27:27] fryguy: you said the javascript is showing up on the page

[03:35:10] fryguy: jeromelanteri: how is photos.coffee getting included in your site?
[03:35:13] jhfisc: has joined #RubyOnRails
[03:36:20] jeromelanteri: fryguy, i don't really know, for me it stay a kind of magic from RoR from controller/photos_controller.rb i think...
[03:36:34] jeromelanteri: do you need to read photos_controller.rb ?
[03:37:05] fryguy: jeromelanteri: no, you need to reference is in application.js
[03:37:23] fryguy: or add another call to javascript_tag in your view to load it
[03:38:09] jeromelanteri: this photos.coffee is inside app/assets/javascript/ repo, so i need it load it from app/views/layout/applications.html.haml
[03:38:56] fryguy: yes, either by using javascript_include tag there, or adding it via require in application.js
[03:39:27] jeromelanteri: i have this line i think doing this job:
[03:39:28] jeromelanteri: = javascript_include_tag 'application', params[:controller], 'data-turbolinks-track' => true
[03:39:33] fryguy: if you add it via javascript include, you'll need to update config/application.rb to update the asset precompilation list since it'll be compiled separately
[03:39:56] jeromelanteri: let me paste my application.html.haml file... waiting please

[03:40:21] fryguy: jeromelanteri: no need

[03:44:01] jeromelanteri: ho i think i understand maybe my error... it has to load controllers pages concerned (so photos.coffee to), but it does not maybe because of line 7 condition call... or not ?

[03:47:47] fryguy: no, the rendered contents

[03:52:57] timdotrb: I’m having an issue with elasticsearch only returning 10 results? There are definitely more than 10 results that should be returned, but I’m not sure why this limit is being imposed. The code is just Model.search(term)
[03:52:58] jeromelanteri: on line 8, it has to load the gallery
[03:53:31] jeromelanteri: timdotrb, could you paste your controller code and some other one who should be related ?
[03:53:44] fryguy: jeromelanteri: is there a javascript error in your browser?
[03:54:15] jeromelanteri: bu ti can not see my console.log "OK".. that is strange
[03:54:58] jeromelanteri: fryguy, before of that, i used blueimp gallery in the same way to call it from $(document).ready and that worked well.
[03:55:04] jhfisc: has joined #RubyOnRails
[03:55:57] jeromelanteri: (not so well in fact, gallery appeared but doesn't start running well most of the time.. like not stable running, i had to reaload some other pages in new tabs browser for see it running... very strange)
[03:56:54] jeromelanteri: and i'm not sure, but i think that is directly related to rails-4 and my lake of knowledge of this difficult framework (for me).

[03:59:24] jeromelanteri: i can not find any clue on debug firebug, and most of the time, i'm very not good for find clues about javascript problems...

[04:02:31] jeromelanteri: fryguy, could it be possible that the order sorted for call javascript files should be concernend by this kind of problem ? because i can see that call of photos-xx.js is made before call of unitegallery.js (line 19 & line 20 of file code source html rendered)
[04:03:25] fryguy: jeromelanteri: yep it can be, you'd see javascript errors in that case though
[04:03:35] fryguy: you claim to not see any, so I don't know what the problem is
[04:06:32] jeromelanteri: fryguy, yes, i just trying to put call of javascript libs before inside application.html.haml... see the change on source code page, but doesn't effect on make running gallery. so that doesn't resolve the problem.
[04:06:50] jeromelanteri: fryguy, yes, i not see any javascript error or anyt error in firebug
[04:07:45] jeromelanteri: i totaly failed to understand what can be a reason for that javascript code does not running.
[04:08:26] jeromelanteri: it really looks like the call from photos.coffee file of unitegallery doesn't works... without any error.
[04:08:55] jeromelanteri: should it be related to bad use of turbolink ?

[09:14:05] helpa: adac: It seems like you are asking for a specific solution to a problem, instead of asking about your problem. This often leads to bad solutions and increases frustration for you and those trying to help you. More: http://meta.stackexchange.com/a/66378
[09:17:18] adac: dminuoso, The rancher tool can have some health checks for the docker containers that run for example rails s. It can tcp check on the port, in case of rails it is port 3000. If a container is not reachable anymore, a new one gets spinned up on another host
[09:17:44] adac: in case or worke containers I cannot tcp check, since the sidkiq deamon does not open a port
[09:18:02] dminuoso: adac: sidekiq has a pid file you can check against
[09:18:39] adac: dminuoso, that is unfortuntaly not an option in rancher. I can either do tcp checks or http checks
[09:18:58] dminuoso: adac: What you could do is set up the web interface of sidekiq
[09:19:09] dminuoso: adac: Make sure to protect it accordingly with your routes.
[09:19:22] dminuoso: Or dont route it at all
[09:19:36] dminuoso: authorization is your main issue, but Im sure that can be tackled somehow.
[09:20:02] dminuoso: adac: But it should also be trivially possible to extend sidekiq to listen on an arbitrary port
[09:20:11] adac: dminuoso, ok that is an option. I will check, thanks!

[23:08:43] rubycoder37: I have a User model with a Target model associated to it, the Target model has a value field (integer), my goal is to create an app where I distribute the value to stores and employees, but I also need to show results for each day and only for specific stores/employees
[23:09:19] rubycoder37: any ideas how to do this or what type of association I can use? I'm also not sure how to show the results by day, or how to group them
[23:11:13] rubycoder37: do I need to associate the Store model with the Target model (where I store the dates)?
