[03:25:34] emers2n: sevenseacat: Ah, needed to add "resources :posts" to routes.rb to make it work
[03:25:59] cam27: SQL is throwing an error when trying to use the db:seed command saying no column for price. But I have a column for price and the seed file has the value. It’s not a FK.
[03:26:17] sevenseacat: cam27: can you gist the error and the code causing it?

[03:28:21] sevenseacat: and the code causing it?

[03:37:42] Radar: We talked about this _extensively_ yesterday in heere.
[03:38:01] Radar: Starting here: http://logs.ryanbigg.com/RubyOnRails?date=2017-07-19#6409517 and then continuing over to the next day
[03:38:28] Radar: Lemme guess you're just looking for a quote? But to quote you we have to sign your NDA first?
[03:38:31] cam27: sevenseacat: Why does it have products.active twice? I sthat maybe the issue? an extra column.
[03:38:36] sevenseacat: been in this industry a long time. never signed an NDA.
[03:38:46] Radar: sevenseacat: did you see that discussion yesterday?
[03:38:49] sevenseacat: cam27: can you answer the question?

[03:39:19] Ashcr0w: I'm not reading a wall of text. For my investor's purposes regardless if an NDA is enforceable or not is out of my area of expertise
[03:39:44] Radar: Ashcr0w: You will have a hard time finding people here if you want them to sign an NDA>
[03:39:54] Radar: Clearly you haven't consulted a lawyer about this NDA.
[03:40:04] sevenseacat: many popcorns
[03:40:17] Ashcr0w: I don't need a lawyer, like I said I am but a messenger
[03:40:40] Ashcr0w: Thank you for your thoughtful input though, you've been of much help as to my original inquiry.
[03:41:50] sevenseacat: 'I just want a website, y so snarky'

[03:42:30] sevenseacat: this is a glorious thread
[03:42:33] cam27: sevenseacat: I ran the schema again and it is missing the price column now. I’ll jus add a new migration

[03:47:26] Ashcr0w: I will, just need some time.
[03:47:36] sevenseacat: no-one is going to want to work with you if all they have is 'i need an auction website'
[03:47:38] Ashcr0w: I'll get back to you, if you're genuinely interested
[03:47:39] Radar: Interested to see if you've got what it takes to write an actual halfway decent spec document for a consultant. Any decent consultant would ask for such a thing.

[04:03:49] Radar: I'm actually reading through a contract at the moment which outlines an extensive agreement across 20 pages.
[04:04:04] Radar: We've agreed on a site redesign with them and we've outlined the work very clearly. The specification of each feature has at least been bullet-pointed.
[04:04:15] jhfisc: has joined #RubyOnRails
[04:04:39] Radar: We've agreed that a certain subset of the features are achievable within a timeframe. With that timeframe, we know exactly how much to budget for it.
[04:05:07] Radar: If those features are completed to our satisfaction, then we will continue utilising this firm's services. If they are not, then we're able to cancel the contract and find someone else.
[04:05:41] Radar: It would be absolutely pointless to enter into this work without a _very_ clear idea of what we would expect this site redesign to achieve. Without that, we run the risk of a budget / scope creep and in general a lot of unhappy people.
[04:06:32] Radar: Ashcr0w: Do you have such a document? Do you have the expected features of your application at least bullet-pointed? Do you have any idea of a timeframe of how long at least a subset of those would take to get developed?
[04:06:49] Radar: Or are you wasting time waiting for people to sign an NDA and you'll just _tell_ them what you want rather than actually legibly document it somewhere?
[04:06:55] Radar: documenting*
[04:07:22] Radar: Do you have an idea of what your budget for a month's worth of work would look like? How about 3 months?

[04:28:24] emers2n: The most important part of the NDA: The NDA for the NDA. You can't have people making fun of your NDA
[04:32:29] emers2n: NDA Caution Tip: Developers will attempt to make fun of you for requesting a NDA. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS. This is a classic negotiation tactic so the filthy developers can steal your idea which is totally awesome and not at all a shitty clone of a pre-existing and dominant service. I recommend atleast 4 NDAs before you even mention what industry you're in.
[04:34:52] timdotrb: has joined #RubyOnRails
[04:34:55] emers2n: NDA Pro Tip: Don't forget the memory erase clause - it's the most common NDA rookie mistake I've seen. If the developers decide to decline the job, you reserve the right to erase your ideas from their memory. Make sure to specify the method so there's no wiggle room. I'd suggest lobotomy or a neuralyzer (as made famous by famous documentary Men In Black)

[07:17:01] alexday: https://relishapp.com/vcr/vcr/v/2-2-0/docs/request-matching/uri-without-param-s this thing, is it possible to configure this for only one context block? the problem is I have a method, that makes an api request. rspec that connects to a mock server and sends user_id as parameter. but in the spec for another model I haven't mocked the method call of the previous method. so I want to ignore the user_id
[07:17:03] alexday: param only for this test. is it possible?

(fields_for 'blah[]', @blah do |f| ...). the field names are blah[ID][column_name], what is the best way to test this in rspec? since fill_in 'blah[][column_name]', with: 'blah' doesn't work. Would I have to lookup the ID in the test to know what field to enter in?
[14:48:57] vedu: ule: yes it is possible
[14:50:59] vedu: ule: you are probably looking for `user = User.includes(:company).first`. Now `user.company` will not run another SQL query. ref: http://guides.rubyonrails.org/active_record_querying.html#eager-loading-multiple-associations

[14:59:01] vedu: you can just use the string data type right?

[15:34:41] ule: using string36 for UUID is a mistake but works
[15:35:25] raz: well, all ids must always be treated as opaque strings
[15:35:52] raz: that part is easy, but how do i pass a proc into the rails id generator so it actually generates the ids i want?
[15:37:18] raz: would be great if it was as easy as 'create_table id: Proc.new { ULID.generate }' - but that's wishful thinking :/
[15:40:28] ule: raz: you can create a callback on your model
[15:41:13] raz: ule: any more info or a tutorial? :) googling this is hard, everyone only ever refers to the builtin UUID...
[15:41:17] ule: like: before_create, or before_save
[15:41:29] raz: hrm.. that sounds dirty...
[15:41:46] ule: raz: that works.. I have a project running uuid + mysql + rails 4
[15:42:02] raz: yes, i use uuid everywhere, but i want ulid now, that's why i'm asking here ;)
[15:42:34] ule: oh sorry didn't read the above thread
[15:42:40] ule: nevermind then
[15:44:01] ule: are you usind this? https://github.com/rafaelsales/ulid
[15:44:43] ule: you definitely can put that ULID.generate inside a callback
[15:46:05] raz: yes, that's what i would use
[15:46:37] raz: well, but what callback(s). i'd rather like to do exactly what the uuid code does.

[18:15:50] rakm: hello... i'm working on a gem to include in a rails app and used bundle gem <name> to generate the scaffold. when i put things inside the lib/ directory, how do i get them to be auto required in rails console? i'm fiddling around with require and require_relative in the main module, but it looks like i have to require each individual file in rails console instead of just getting all of them

[18:31:59] rakm: boykoc_ hmm, i am adding it to my gemfile with path: to the gem directory right now, since i want to just test it
[18:32:18] rakm: in rails console, when i require 'directory' (name of my gem), then I get the main Directory module, but not the classes inside that module
[18:32:36] rakm: i have to then require 'directory/user' to get Directory::User, for example
[18:32:47] mwlang: I have a gem that is loading a bunch of javascripts and stylesheets into rails asset pipeline. It works in Rails 5.0, but does not work in 5.1 and when I run rake assets:precompile, it’s definitely not picking up the gem’s provided assets. Any idea what specifically changed between 5.0 and 5.1 as far as correctly injecting resources into the assets pipeline?
[18:33:01] rakm: in my main directory.rb module file. I have added require 'directory/user' though
