[09:37:22] crst: Hi dminuoso, I've been wondering the last couple of hours, how do you replace rails views? Do you use react or vue and control everything in a <div class="app"></div> single application.html.erb ? Maybe I shouldn't rely on rails views, too. For the thing I'm developing now for instance I'd like to put the show and edit views into modals so more kind of an SPA approach.
[09:37:46] dminuoso: crst, went react all the way.
[09:38:19] crst: dminuoso: still with rails as backend though?
[09:38:48] dminuoso: crst, for now, yes.
[09:40:03] dminuoso: crst, also there is not even an application.html.erb, my rails app is API only. JS is served separately
[09:41:18] crst: dminuoso: I see. Do you maybe know if there's an open source example of this kind of project style where I can have a look?
[09:41:31] mtkd: has joined #RubyOnRails
[09:42:24] dminuoso: crst, how many developers are you?
[09:42:32] crst: dminuoso: only me
[09:43:43] dminuoso: crst, think about it well. You need quite a bit of time figuring out how to use the monstreous tech stack that an SPA brings: webpack, babel, flow, lint, react, redux, etc., etc.
[09:46:19] crst: dminuoso: I'm planning on using vuejs and I'm already experienced in a lot of the nodejs things :)
[09:46:52] dminuoso: crst, http://edgeguides.rubyonrails.org/api_app.html this contains the necessary details server side t hen
[09:47:32] dminuoso: crst, things I recommend to consider from the beginning: make a JSON:API conform backend, your frontend will thank you for it.
[09:49:16] sevenseacat: elmelmelm <_<
[09:49:33] crst: dminuoso: thanks! If anybody knows of an open source app like this to have a look, let me know, please.
[09:50:12] dminuoso: sevenseacat, have you started with elm already?
[09:50:28] sevenseacat: been learning it for the last week

[09:58:34] crst: yeah, more interested in a rails solution atm. thanks anyways :)
[10:01:16] dminuoso: crst, honestly an API only backend is not really much different. The controllers are the same, the values you gather will be the same - the only difference is that you wont render a HTML partial but use some serialization method
[10:05:15] crst: dminuoso: Probably. Still curious seeing the internals :)

[11:07:00] Maakuth: okay, now this is getting weird
[11:08:04] Maakuth: if I check my association in pry breakpoint with ModelA.modelbs, assertions on modelb_ids work fine
[11:08:53] Maakuth: if I don't, modelb_ids is empty. also happens if I ask to reload the association before asserting, even if I open it in breakpoint
[11:10:15] Maakuth: so somehow calling modela.modelbs in pry caches the correct result, but wrong result is gotten from the database if reloaded

[21:21:18] funkytwig: crst, I thnik all the pices are there, its just knowing where to put them.
[21:22:38] funkytwig: crst, hand on.....
[21:23:24] funkytwig: crst, so I have the RDBMS view created as a migration, is there a simple way of creating a controler for it?
[21:23:43] funkytwig: crst, or a retrospective scafold
[21:24:16] crst: funkytwig: the scaffold does it all for you, model, controller, views, etc ;-)
[21:24:35] crst: and names them correctly
[21:25:00] funkytwig: crst, but I lsready have the database object, I thought the scafold created the table.
[21:27:17] crst: you can generate everything separately, if you need a controller generate it with rails g controller, but if you want to understand the intertwindedness of it all do a scaffold once as a test ans you'll understand it easily
[21:28:15] crst: you then see how how it all plays together
[21:28:43] crst: and from there you can adapt to your thing which you have now
[21:30:11] funkytwig: crst, the view has a singular name, I guess I should rolback migration and give it a plural first?
