[12:35:42] dminuoso: crst: No. The only way you could possibly build dynamic datepickers is with jQuery.
[12:35:57] dminuoso: That's why HTML5 specified DOMjQuery
[12:37:19] dminuoso: crst: Though you could just look at chmln/flatpickr
[12:37:37] dminuoso: It's a slim solution that just uses the raw DOM api.
[12:38:12] tbuehlmann: and you only need react, redact, reflux and reactfluxdb for it!
[12:39:27] dminuoso: tbuehlmann: So hateful. :(

[13:18:40] elomatreb: I wish the browsers would finally support the date/time native inputs
[13:27:16] kitallis: I'm running rails 4.2.9, I get this error in my schema.rb file when I add a Point type: "# Could not dump table "table_name" because of following StandardError
[13:27:16] kitallis: # Unknown type 'point' for column 'things'" –– how do I fix this?
[13:29:27] daydreamm: has joined #RubyOnRails
[13:35:58] tcopeland: kitallis: are you using https://github.com/rgeo/activerecord-postgis-adapter? I haven’t used this, but it seems like that’s what provides the “point” type
[13:36:40] kitallis: tcopeland, hrm
[13:36:49] kitallis: I'm not since https://www.postgresql.org/docs/9.4/static/datatype-geometric.html Point is a standard geometric type
[13:37:10] kitallis: and it's available without the postgis extension
[13:38:06] tcopeland: looking at https://stackoverflow.com/questions/22229294/postgresql-point-type-in-rails-migration, it seems like you could also do t.column :point, 'point'
[13:40:30] kitallis: tcopeland, that works for running migrations, but it doesn't work for schema dumps
[13:41:00] kitallis: as in, my table/column gets created that way, but the schema.rb still says that
[13:42:13] elomatreb: IIRC you can set ActiveRecord to dump an SQL file instead of the schema.rb
[13:43:44] tcopeland: yeah structure.sql seems like the way to go there
[13:49:30] kitallis: ah didn't know that was a thing
[13:54:23] tcopeland: FWIW it looks like Rails 5.1 can dump a point column to schema.rb https://gist.github.com/tommotorefi/312b8e7123814655021def200f5a3cf6

[18:11:57] ansraliant: Hello. How do you do a where query in active record that compares a numerical field inside a json? for example. Listing.where("lot_size['value'] > ?", 5)
[18:12:16] javierbuilder: gusrub: thanks , but i have my folder structure rails root app and inside folder frontend angular2 ..
[18:12:26] ja: ansraliant: lot_size->>'value'

[18:19:27] ansraliant: ja: nice. Will look at it. Thanks
[18:19:47] javierbuilder: please can help me to build the structure and deploy simple.
[18:19:54] ja: ansraliant: ->> will cast to string
[18:20:07] ja: you're welcome, ansraliant

[18:20:58] matthewd: orbyt_: Many, depending largely on your exact tastes for "simple"
[18:21:29] dminuoso: ja, http://sebfisch.github.io/research/pub/Fischer+MPC15.pdf
[18:21:57] gusrub: javierbuilder: no its not, if your frontend code is not part of the rails app they should not be on the same folder or even repo, and certainly not deployed to heroku (the angular app) maybe you need to read the documentation and go through some tutorials, deploying a whole API app + SPA frontend is not something that can be explained on a single message on IRC, sorry
[18:22:03] orbyt_: matthewd In Axios, I could do something like `axios.get('http://example.com/api').then(response).catch(error)`
[18:22:14] orbyt_: So, something of the like would be cool
[18:22:23] orbyt_: I found rest-client, httparty, and http...
[18:22:44] orbyt_: Though due to my unfamilarity with ruby in general its hard to determine the benefits each bring
[18:23:07] dminuoso: ja, it's a composable way of implementing getters/setters in nested data structures that come with certain laws

[18:25:48] javierbuilder: gusrub: ok thanks
[18:26:11] matthewd: orbyt_: For a trivial request, `require 'open-uri'; URI.parse('http://example.com/').read` is potentially fine, no gems required
[18:26:53] orbyt_: matthewd I'd like to make a request to a simple api returning json. It looks like httparty has json parsing built in, no?
[18:27:04] matthewd: orbyt_: If you need to care about non-2xx responses, then you're probably better off looking at examples from those libraries and picking whatever feels most ergonomic
[18:27:26] matthewd: Sounds plausible

[18:37:14] orbyt_: matthewd Follow up..I know to install a gem it's simple `gem install httparty`. However, running that command in my projects directory doesn't seem to include it in the project or add it to the Gemfile (I get a "uninitialized constant" error when trying to use the gem).
[18:37:31] orbyt_: Is there an npm install --save mylibrary equivalent to save to the Gemfile?
[18:37:38] orbyt_: Do I have to manually edit the gemfile?
[18:39:10] matthewd: I think bundler has recently grown a command that attempts to edit the gemfile for you... but generally yes, you should edit the file manually
[18:39:18] matthewd: (no need to `gem install`)
[18:39:48] orbyt_: So edit the gemfile, then run `bundle install`, correct?
[18:40:17] matthewd: The Gemfile is an executable ruby script, and can [within certain constraints] contain more complex behaviours -- hence it not normally being edited by command
[18:41:15] orbyt_: Cool. Is there a particular convention for manually editing the Gemfile? On a new Rails project, theres a few gems specified in there with a decent amount of comments. They don't appear to be in ABC order or organized in any particular way...do people just toss the gem name in there?
[18:43:09] matthewd: Some people like alpha order, but IME people generally tend to cluster related gems together
[18:44:08] matthewd: and/or put such clusters in a vaguely project-wide -> narrow-usage/dev-only super-order
[18:44:50] orbyt_: But in the end I assume it doesn't really matter, just preference
[18:44:54] matthewd: (thus you're likely to find `rails` listed first, for example)
[18:45:06] matthewd: Yeah, makes no functional difference
[18:45:14] orbyt_: matthewd Thanks for the help, much appreciated.
[18:45:26] matthewd: Bundler resolves the full set of gems all at once, and doesn't allow a gem to be listed twice

[19:35:55] pupsicle: orbyt_, bundle add <gemname> is a built in command to add a gem to the current Gemfile
[19:37:07] orbyt_: pupsicle Is there a corresponding remove? The bundler docs don't show anything
[19:37:14] jhfisc: has joined #RubyOnRails
[19:37:35] pupsicle: I don't think so. Just remove from Gemfile and run bundle
[19:37:56] orbyt_: pupsicle Thanks for the info 👍
