[13:41:33] jamesst20: Actually, @myentity.save() seems to clear the content I added to @myentity.errors. Kind of a odd behavior
[13:41:58] matthewd: jamesst20: Add an attr_accessor, then validate against it
[13:42:56] jamesst20: matthewd: an attr_accessor that validates that @myentity.errors dictionnary is empty?
[13:43:05] jhfisc: has joined #RubyOnRails
[13:44:07] matthewd: An attr_accessor that remembers that your relevant badness is applicable, and a validator that ensures said attribute is false
[13:44:53] jamesst20: matthewd: The thing is that I have an entity image, and depending to what kind of image it is (different route for diffrent kind), I must validate the minimum width and height of the image which can vary
[13:45:46] matthewd: That seems like something a normal validation should handle, but okay
[13:47:11] jamesst20: matthewd: How ? The entity doesn't know which kind of image it is. Only the controller does from the request

[14:01:13] zmo: hi! I'm heritating a code base in rails 4.7, that uses trubolinks, and I wrote a JS function I want to run when an user follows an internal link

[14:01:28] zmo: but I cannot find the right event to bind that function to
[14:01:52] zmo: when I do $(function () { console.log('loaded') }) it works when I hit refresh
[14:01:58] zmo: when I follow a link it does not
[14:02:17] zmo: I tried .on('page:change') and page:load and a few specific turbolinks ones
[14:02:21] zmo: without success
[14:04:28] zmo: even using chrome's monitorEvents(document) I only see true DOM events, not the turbolinks ones
[14:06:49] jamesst20: zmo: You may want to look in turbolink events. There are no page reload, behind the web page is fetched by Ajax and replaced in the DOM
[14:08:04] jamesst20: But I have got no experience with TurboLink
[14:08:13] zmo: yup, I'm trying: `$(document).on("ready page:partial-load page:load page:change page:update page:restore", function() {})`

[14:18:59] zmo: matthewd - which I am
[14:19:19] yehaizi: i have a model which maintains certain constraints over a collection of child models it has_many of. at the moment, i expose the child model's #create and #update actions as nested routes under the parent model. these #create and #update actions cause other children of the parent model to be modified as well, through a callback to the parent. the code is messy and seems kind of hack-ish - if i know that modifying one child will always cause modificat
[14:19:19] yehaizi: ion the other children, would it be better to only allow modification through the parent controller?
[14:19:46] bronson: has joined #RubyOnRails
[14:22:16] cagomez: has joined #RubyOnRails
[14:22:39] coder2000: You could always use accepts_nested_attributes_for to update all the models in your relationship from the one controller
[14:23:59] yehaizi: right now i only do that for parent creation
[14:24:46] yehaizi: conceptually speaking, does it make sense to only expose the children indirectly through the parent? i would still have to pass child id's as POST params to the parent controller
[14:26:13] coder2000: Not usually. In my current project I have a course model that has_many assignments. The "index" as it were is on the course "show" method however all other actions are in the assignments_controller.

[14:42:29] maryo_: coder2000, nope i use the controller travels
[14:42:45] coder2000: then it may be travels_path???
[14:43:07] coder2000: depends on what you have for your routes and what url you want to use
[14:46:23] maryo_: coder2000, this is the route travels/show_graph so in that case, can i give like this <%= travels_path(:action => 'show_graph')

[16:11:40] jokke: i'm just migrating from paperclip to dragonfly and i'm having some trouble mapping the concept of "versions" from paperclip to dragonfly. The problem is, that in my project i have many different attachment classes which in turn define different versions. As far as I can see dragonfly only knows of global processors. Is the way to go to just define the sum of all paperclip versions as processors?

[18:16:27] lignux: Whats the best practices on on how to handle third party api calls in rails? I am a noob so i was wondering if i should make my api calls and save the results in a model or should i just let the api do the work? I have tried going with the non-model approach and its hard for some stuff like infinite scrolling
