[15:00:30] tycoon177: i'm hoping someone in here has experienced an issue like this...i am running rails in a docker container and a scope that relies on a date being >= Date.today is not being updated..if i restart the container, it updates the date to be correct. Does anyone know why this would not be reevaluating?
[15:01:27] alfiemax: has joined #RubyOnRails
[15:02:25] tycoon177: To add some information: Date.today works in views, it just seems that this scope is not reevaluating Date.today

[15:28:59] fryguy: tycoon177: the second parameter of a scope should be a callable
[15:29:12] fryguy: scope :available, -> { where(...) }
[15:29:23] tycoon177: that was copied right from the codebase
[15:29:28] fryguy: well it's wrong
[15:30:11] tycoon177: this is how it was done in rails 3, correct?
[15:30:19] fryguy: ACTION shrugs
[15:30:47] tycoon177: http://guides.rubyonrails.org/v3.2.13/active_record_querying.html#scopes
[15:31:17] fryguy: tycoon177: yes, look at 13.1
[15:32:11] tycoon177: i just got down to that point..thanks. i'm really not sure why this ever worked now. it's been like that in production for at least a few years without issue
[15:32:35] fryguy: maybe your application restarts once a day?
[15:33:06] tycoon177: that's a dumb design decision if it did :p we just recently switched to docker containers, which is when this issue came up
[15:34:39] NL3limin4t0r: has joined #RubyOnRails
[15:35:26] tycoon177: ah, i see..i ran git blame on it and it looks like that line used to used a getdate() instead of passing Date.today. so maybe we were doing deployments enough after that was changed that it wasn't noticed
[15:35:46] tycoon177: with getdate() being the sql built-in
[15:36:58] tycoon177: fryguy: so simply making it a callable will fix it?
[15:37:12] tycoon177: fryguy: thanks for your help!

[21:26:03] conceivably: Hi. I would like to encrypt some url parameters that get sent for a round trip to a third party. the third party does not need to decrypt them, but upon receipt of the callback I need to get the stored data back. What is the best way to do this?
[21:26:17] Mweshi: has joined #RubyOnRails
[21:29:03] fryguy: conceivably: i mean, you just described the process. encrypt the data, send it via params, receive it back. that's how you do it.

[21:45:57] sawdustofmind: Hello everybody. Do rails provides database view analog into ActiveRecord? Now, I'm using static method for this and I feel that I rewrite rails to represent the "database view"
[21:48:24] fryguy: sawdustofmind: you mean using views instead of tables?
[21:50:08] sawdustofmind: fryguy: yes, i'd like to use "validates" and "errors" from api
[21:50:32] fryguy: sawdustofmind: have you tried just making an activerecord class that corresponds to the view?
[21:51:43] conceivably: fryguy: sorry this is probably a very basic question, but how do I do that? I'm only familiar with SecureRandom which is only one way :/
[21:52:22] sawdustofmind: fryguy: not yet. I'm just in search of best solution
[21:53:33] fryguy: conceivably: how do you do what
[21:54:27] conceivably: Encrypt a string in a url safe way using a password so that I can decrypt it once the callback comes in.
