[02:11:40] sevenseacat: I love rspec.

[02:13:42] sevenseacat: wanna swap? I've been banging my head against elm for weeks
[02:14:13] srruby: Rails5.1 has capybara integration
[02:14:48] fryguy: here's my reason for preferrign minitest, it's part of ruby by default, it's integrated with rails by default, and if you want spec-like syntax, you use minispec, which is also just built in.
[02:16:14] Disavowed: sevenseacat: I've heard really good things about Elm! Believe me, you do not want this codebase. It's the worst I've seen in 10 years.
[02:16:22] Disavowed: srruby: That's worth knowing - haven't really used Capybara in anger
[02:16:45] sevenseacat: I have a love/hate relationship with elm at this point
[02:17:15] Disavowed: fryguy: See, that's exactly what I'm after - I've been leaning towards that myself. I tried a project where I ripped out minitest and did rspec and my coverage just dropped because it doesn't work out of the box. I wondered if it was worth throwing myself onto the rspec train or just reverting back to minitest
[02:17:47] Disavowed: sevenseacat: Anything that can impose a sane type system onto the wild west of JS is alright by me

[16:12:07] timdotrb: I have an image attached to a user that he user is able to crop. However, the image isn’t updating on my production server after the user crops it. I’m inspecting the code and after update, the timestamp on the image isn’t changing
[16:13:43] ule: timdotrb: image.jpg?timestamp=123... The query string after the image will force the browser to reload the image.
[16:13:49] fragamus: has joined #RubyOnRails
[16:14:04] timdotrb: ule: right. The timestamp isn’t changing
[16:14:07] timdotrb: So the image isn’t updating

[16:14:41] alfiemax: has joined #RubyOnRails
[16:15:19] ule: After the user crop the image, I would append some random string on the image code inside the view
[16:15:52] ule: then the browser will think its a different image and will download again
[16:16:21] Criten: Morning all
[16:32:15] timdotrb: ule: then if you remove that random string, the browser will revert to the previous version of the image
[16:39:01] ule: that might be correct
[16:39:25] ule: so, save the cropped image with a different name

[16:57:42] wolfravenous: Let me preface that I know this is more of an *nix question than rails but hoping someone here has already ran up against this issue and solved it.
[16:58:02] wolfravenous: when I run the command "bundle exec rails server -e production -p 3030 -d" in a terminal it works fine.
[16:58:26] wolfravenous: when I try to put that command in a shell script it gives the error bundle not found
[16:59:13] wolfravenous: I know this is because the script actually launchs a "child" shell to run the command that doesn’t inherit the various properties of the user in the "parent" shell
[17:00:52] wolfravenous: however I can’t seem to find a way to run the command in a script and preserve all the properties of the user running the script, for example the PATH variables and such. Any *nix gurus know how to setup the script or the command to execute the script so as to avoid the bundler not found error?

[20:31:23] chridal: I have some resources in a folder called `static` in my Rails root folder, how can I link to it?
[20:31:40] chridal: These are PDFs that I need to be able to link to from my application
[20:32:02] chridal: I've tried Googling but searching for static assets just gives me the standard asset pipeline, and routes weren't of too much help either

[20:44:11] qyliss: `post` should probably be `@post`
[20:45:01] qyliss: As far as I can see you don't have a comment variable anywhere
[20:45:16] qyliss: Maybe you want to do `@comment = @post.comments.new` in your controller?
[20:45:33] qyliss: Then `form_for @comment, remote: true`

[22:14:46] mices: qyliss: in posts_helper.rb it's defined with locals: { post: post, comment: Blogit::Comment.new })
[22:15:23] mices: qyliss: actually i changed it to post.comment since i already have post
[22:16:22] qyliss: Oh right okay
[22:16:25] mices: it should be Blogit::Comment.new i think because that's the way they had it

[23:14:39] qyliss: You’re not passing any locals
[23:22:01] mices: qyliss: ty, i'll try to learn how to read the stack traces in the future, thanks again
[23:22:49] mices: actually wanna give users the option to enable/disable comments
[23:23:00] mices: but that's not problematic
[23:23:29] mices: either that or disable them
[23:24:27] mices: also i dunno why they use Blogit::Comment instead of post.comment since the comments belong to the post
