[00:13:19] EXCHGR: has joined #RubyOnRails
[00:18:48] fryguy: MonicleLewinsky: how did you install it
[00:19:22] MonicleLewinsky: fryguy: I added the line in my gem file, did gem install, did bundle install, I tried it all
[00:19:46] MonicleLewinsky: Mostly because I'm not 100% on how to install gems
[00:21:03] Radar: MonicleLewinsky: Did you run `bin/spring s top`?
[00:21:06] fryguy: is it present in gemfile.lock?
[00:21:08] Radar: `bin/spring stop`
[00:21:42] MonicleLewinsky: fryguy: Yes it is and it's dependencies
[00:22:01] MonicleLewinsky: Radar: Okay, Spring stopped. Do I need to start it again?
[00:22:09] MonicleLewinsky: I've never heard of that service
[00:22:11] Radar: MonicleLewinsky: what happens when you try requiring that in rails console again?
[00:22:23] MonicleLewinsky: Radar: It works fine in irb
[00:22:26] Radar: MonicleLewinsky: Spring is an application preloader (boots your application and keeps its state in memory for faster boot times)
[00:22:33] Radar: MonicleLewinsky: I didn't ask about irb, I asked about rails console .
[00:22:52] MonicleLewinsky: Oh, let me try that.
[00:23:04] MonicleLewinsky: ACTION is working on his first Ruby project
[00:23:04] Radar: Spring may have not detected a change to your Gemfile (classic Spring!) and so explicitly telling it to stop will kill that process, and hopefully reload the changes
[00:23:43] MonicleLewinsky: Radar: Requiring it in Rails console returns "False"
[00:23:51] Radar: MonicleLewinsky: so the require is working then.
[00:24:04] Radar: "false" means it has been required by something else already. Probably Bundler.
[00:24:12] Radar: Yet again, Spring causes issues.
[00:24:15] armyriad: has joined #RubyOnRails
[00:24:26] MonicleLewinsky: Huh. So how do I make Rails aware of the gem?
[00:25:59] Radar: It is already aware.
[00:26:02] Radar: If it's in your Gemfile
[00:26:17] riotjones: has joined #RubyOnRails
[00:26:18] Radar: And require in the console works
[00:26:32] Radar: "false" is require's way of saying "I have already required this file"
[00:29:11] MonicleLewinsky: Oh shit it works now.
[00:29:19] MonicleLewinsky: Thanks guys! I think killing spring did the trick

[23:23:18] anoob: is it possible to render something within rescue_from and stop the execution?
[23:26:39] lupine: execution is halted by the exception being *raised*
[23:26:50] lupine: you can render from a rescue_from, which is where execution begins again
[23:27:29] anoob: this is what i've tried so far: https://pastebin.mozilla.org/9080961
[23:29:15] lupine: you don't need the `and return`, and I'd suggest avoiding the `and` and `or` keywords completely, tBH
[23:29:56] lupine: looks fine as long as something is actually raising SlugError
[23:30:16] anoob: what's wrong with and/or?
[23:30:29] anoob: something is raising it but it does not work at all

[23:31:55] lupine: maybe you can show what's raising the SlugError in the same snippet

[23:33:26] anoob: it should be http://localhost:3000/jobs/1-rails-developer
[23:33:37] anoob: the exception is really raised
