Example : the same user account can be admin of a group, but simple user of another group, and moderator of yet another one. I find a lot of gems meant to provide an "application-wide" role but I have trouble finding more granular ones

[09:58:50] Radar: I was under the impression that request variables were never available in coffee files.
[09:58:51] i4: car=var
[09:59:04] Radar: assets are rendered in a separate request to the actual Rails server request.
[09:59:20] i4: Radar and what the solution for this?
[09:59:23] i4: To call some vars?
[09:59:32] KeyJoo: has joined #RubyOnRails
[09:59:52] Radar: To make a request from the coffeescript file to your Rails server to fetch the information you need.
[10:00:38] tbuehlmann: if the the file is not rendered "manually" in a regular request, that might indeed be the case

[10:04:22] Radar: What data does @global_var return?
[10:04:31] srinidhi: has joined #RubyOnRails
[10:05:48] tbuehlmann: this looks tightly coupled to a request, as you're also using I18n. a very easy way would be to render the js inline into your html file
[10:06:17] tbuehlmann: as in: this doesn't seem to fit the asset pipeline approach

[10:28:38] mrbubbles: Hey folks. If I'm supplying an array of symbols, but sometimes I want to include a proc, is there a way I can do this? I'm basically listing some columns to use in an admin panel. It's an array at the moment, I was going to use a hash but then I have to duplicate everything
[10:28:50] mrbubbles: Sorry I explained that terribly, see here https://gist.github.com/joeczucha/4aef4512bf88ccabcf0029ed7295abfa
[10:29:11] i4: tbuehlmann, hm I can't understand how to use js in ruby code
[10:29:12] dminuoso: mrbubbles: Personally I recommend homogenous arrays
[10:29:20] i4: js insertion into ruby string
[10:29:26] dminuoso: mrbubbles: You can do mixed arrays but they make reasoning about things much harder and more annoying to test.
[10:29:36] i4: tbuehlmann, or maybe there is some another wayto do this?
[10:29:54] tbuehlmann: i4: inline that javascript in your html file
[10:29:59] mrbubbles: dminuoso fair enough, is there a better pattern for what I'm trying to do ?
[10:31:09] dminuoso: mrbubbles: id = -> e { e }
[10:31:35] dminuoso: mrbubbles: and then go: { submitter: id, title: id, locality: id, status: &:upcase, short_url: id, created_at: id }
[10:31:49] dminuoso: Its not idiomatic ruby but Ive given up on that a long time ago

[17:42:02] Shadow25: I get an error message like this: canno load such file --sqlite3/sqlite3_native (Load Error)
[17:42:18] MrCrackPotBuilde: ok first debug the message
[17:42:21] ebsen: has joined #RubyOnRails
[17:42:26] MrCrackPotBuilde: what is it saying to you
[17:42:52] Shadow25: that it cannot load that file
[17:42:56] Shadow25: it cannot find it
[17:43:02] MrCrackPotBuilde: ok so first check is the file there
[17:43:25] Shadow25: the thing is that in general, I don't know how to install the sqlite3 for ruby
[17:43:36] MrCrackPotBuilde: right so if its not there you need to create it so as your new is sqlite3 installed on your system
[17:43:37] Shadow25: I have downloaded 3 .exe files and 1 dll
[17:43:53] Shadow25: from sqlite official website
[17:44:08] Shadow25: and I have created a folder in my C:\ called sqlite
[17:44:20] Shadow25: the files that I downloaded are in that folder
[17:44:35] MrCrackPotBuilde: well im not sure what you downloaded
[17:44:41] Shadow25: Moreover, I did gem install sqlite3 (something like that)
[17:44:43] MrCrackPotBuilde: but you should go here http://www.sqlite.org/download.html
[17:44:54] MrCrackPotBuilde: get the binarys for your system be it 32 or 64
[17:45:23] mtkd: has joined #RubyOnRails
[17:45:25] MrCrackPotBuilde: then download sqlite-shell & sqlite.dll
[17:45:59] MrCrackPotBuilde: 7zip to C:/windows/system32
[17:46:26] MrCrackPotBuilde: i forget when u unpack if it creates the folder for you or not but it shouldnt matter anyway
[17:46:47] MrCrackPotBuilde: are you using rvm ??
[17:47:18] MrCrackPotBuilde: lets go all the way to the begining
[17:47:24] MrCrackPotBuilde: because you need it
[17:47:31] MrCrackPotBuilde: better learn now than later
[17:47:35] Shadow25: yeah, true :)
[17:47:41] MrCrackPotBuilde: uninstall everything you have installed
[17:48:00] MrCrackPotBuilde: make sure to clean windows after with ccleaner or 360security
[17:49:16] Zinder: has joined #RubyOnRails
[17:49:24] MrCrackPotBuilde: https://rvm.io/rvm/install
[17:49:48] GodFather_: has joined #RubyOnRails
[17:49:50] MrCrackPotBuilde: then at the top you need bash on ubuntu on windows
[17:50:10] MrCrackPotBuilde: this is really easy to install so i wont go through it but make sure you install that first
[17:50:15] MrCrackPotBuilde: and check to make sure its running
[17:50:29] Shadow25: what is this doing in a few words?
[17:50:50] MrCrackPotBuilde: basically it allows you full control over all your apps
[17:51:07] MrCrackPotBuilde: ruby is awesome and with rails its fast and convienient
[17:51:11] MrCrackPotBuilde: but with its hiccups
[17:51:48] MrCrackPotBuilde: you really dont want all those gems installed all at once for every app you have things will break you will rip your hair out and either a hit the bottle or b hit the bong
[17:51:59] MrCrackPotBuilde: so rvm manages everything in gemsets
[17:52:37] MrCrackPotBuilde: with my rvm i have only the very very minimum installed globally infact just what i need to run rvm
[17:53:15] MrCrackPotBuilde: it also allows for better control over ruby versions so if you are working on a old project
[17:53:41] MrCrackPotBuilde: you would first see if it has a rvmc or .ruby-gemset
[17:53:51] MrCrackPotBuilde: if not create one
[17:54:01] MrCrackPotBuilde: inside give it the name/version of the app
[17:54:09] Shadow25: so I should install rvm first, right?
[17:54:18] MrCrackPotBuilde: no bash on ubuntu on windows
[17:55:10] MrCrackPotBuilde: when you bundle install you get the old gems without breaking the app
[17:55:53] MrCrackPotBuilde: you have to remember to keep your gemsets tidy though and if a project is finished and your not going to work on it remove the gemset takes up space
[17:57:12] Shadow25: hmm ok thank you very much! I need to reboot my system now
[17:57:16] MrCrackPotBuilde: if you cant get it running on windows with bash your going to need to get a vm and use linux because really without rvm your going to have a headache managing everything '
[17:57:29] MrCrackPotBuilde: no problem ill be around if you get stuck

[18:29:08] i4: re all. I try to using loop counter as part of variable, and it working for single variable, but I cant set it for variable with dot... Like a @gon.var1 @gon.var2 etc
[18:31:20] i4: I was tried to set it by using: :"var#{i}", but for @gon.* it is not working... then I was tried to use binding.local_variable_set("var#{i}", 'some') but it is not working with @gon.*
[18:31:26] i4: What I'm doing wrong?
[18:31:41] i4: And how I can get the @gon.var#{i} variables in loop?
[18:32:15] i4: In good way I want to get: @gon.var1 = '1', @gon.var2 = '2' etc

[19:35:44] desperek: MrCrackPotBuilde, i mean, use vagrant instead of vm
[19:35:54] desperek: cause rvm aint working there
