[12:37:13] jamesst20: I'm taking a chance to ask here, I have an ActiveRecord model called "Template". Everytime I reference it (i.e Template.find_by), Rails thinks I mean ActionView::Template instead of my ActiveRecord model. Is there a way to not write ::Template everywhere?
[12:47:04] havenwood: jamesst20: Rename the model to Pattern. :P
[12:47:13] havenwood: https://reservedwords.herokuapp.com
[12:49:05] jamesst20: Yeah.. the model used to be in a namespace and is no longer. It would take a lot of refactoring. The error is only present in views, I think I will stick with :: prefix for now. Thank you havenwood :)
[12:49:53] havenwood: jamesst20: It's unfortunately a pain when constants collide like that. I can't think of a nice way around it.
[12:50:49] jamesst20: Yeah you must be right. I moved all my models outside of namespace because I was tired to find workaround for the broken 'polymorphic_path'
[12:52:41] jamesst20: Let's say you have Bag::Template & Bag::Section and that you have route like that : namespace :bag { resources :templates { resources :sections } }, polymorphic_path will think sections route are named like so : "bag_template_bag_sections_path"
[12:53:05] jamesst20: But in fact it is bag_template_sections_path

[17:18:45] Ryctolagus: Question: I am new to rails and working on a Jruby deployment on a windows server (company requirement) I am having issues connecting my application to the MSSQL server using active record. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
[17:18:51] s2013: has joined #RubyOnRails
[17:20:24] Ryctolagus: Rails version is 5.2.3
[17:23:20] havenwood: Ryctolagus: What seems to be the problem?
[17:24:51] Ryctolagus: Hi, havenwood. was trying to follow this https://ericlondon.com/2014/06/10/jruby-connect-to-a-mssql-database-via-activerecord-and-create-activerecord-base-classes.html activerecord-jdbcmssql fails on loading.
[17:25:12] Ryctolagus: error shown on #jruby
[17:25:58] havenwood: Ryctolagus: Any error?
[17:26:02] havenwood: Ryctolagus: Ah
[17:30:22] Ryctolagus: I got a connection to return an object by tweaking this https://gist.github.com/adilsoncarvalho/1089337 however I have no clue how to integrate that into Rails.

[18:45:25] beingjohnm: Anyone have any ideas on my question above?
[18:45:37] beingjohnm: from a couple of days ago?
[18:47:24] Linell: beingjohnm: it's past my scroll - what is it?
[18:48:35] beingjohnm: Linell: I'm trying to write my first integration tests and having an issue. Getting a "can't modify frozen String" error on a line that simply reads "visit "/"": https://gist.github.com/global001/608daee57dc9bbec39a498f725e7908b
[18:48:43] beingjohnm: I'm not familar with rspec or capybara but there is not a lot of code here to inspect. I was wondering if there was possibly a traceback missing due to this and that the error is somewhere else. On Ruby 2.4.4 if it matters.
[18:49:05] beingjohnm: As usual I assume I am missing something simple and obvious :)
[18:49:17] Linell: lol always

[18:51:07] Linell: Probably doesn't matter, but have you tried single quotes instead of doubles?

[18:52:35] Linell: I saw a few google results for "rspec frozen string literal" but nothing you probably haven't already seen
[18:53:05] yoshie902a: I am getting an active record union error. any help posted on stack would be helpful. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/57418957/argumenterror-relation-passed-to-or-must-be-structurally-compatible-incompati
[18:54:29] tdy: has joined #RubyOnRails
[18:54:45] beingjohnm: Linell: I did search that and didn't see anything that helped. Did see someone else with the same unanswered question.
[18:55:24] beingjohnm: I guess one question is why would I all of a sudden get an error about frozen strings. Isn't that a Ruby 3 thing while I'm on 2.4.4.
[18:55:37] Linell: that's what the stuff I was seeing looked like
[18:55:46] Linell: but it was a thread talking about compatibility
[18:56:05] Linell: and making it compatible going forward
[18:57:09] beingjohnm: and I'm further wondering if the error might be something to do with loading the page e.g. inside devise's controller but that the traceback isn't showing it
[18:57:29] beingjohnm: the page loads fine in the browser though
[18:57:32] Linell: is there another route you could point it to where that wouldn't be the issue?
