[00:00:10] nickjj: if you had a scenario where you had an optional string field in a DB, and you wanted to set a default string for it (but it might change a few times), would you set a proper DB-level default or just do a myschema.foo_label || "the sane default" in the 1 spot where you use it?

[15:51:36] benwilson512: chrismccord: that does raise an interesting question though: is it possible to have handle_params called in conjunction with the initial page mount? For the initial HTTP request you obviously have the params, although I'm not sure if the same holds true for the initial live view render
[15:52:14] benwilson512: if it isn't part of the initial mount it makes pagination scenarios a bit awkward, where on the first load of the page you don't know which page of results to get, you only can do that later
