[01:04:51] Creeves: probably a tesla
[01:05:58] Creeves: i'd go for the self driving all electric option :D
[01:06:03] Creeves: if it exists yet
[01:07:29] Creeves: tesla so much prettier
[01:07:56] Creeves: if i was buying a holden it would probably be a monaro
[01:09:34] Creeves: my brother just got an 86

[02:41:11] Creeves: just posted this in #javascript but not having much luck, might post here in case someone has a quick answer
[02:41:13] Creeves: hey folks, quick question: if i am on a VPN and make an AJAX request in js (using angularjs) to some webservice only available on that VPN, what IP address will that webservice see my request coming from?
[02:41:31] Creeves: or at least, what is the process that's used to determine which IP the request is made using?
[02:42:24] Creeves: i thought so too
[02:43:18] Creeves: i'm just getting restricted on certain computers and not others, even when on the same VPN and assigned the same IP (though not at the same time obviously)
[02:43:43] Creeves: i'm being told that it could be an IP restriction, but I can't see how the IP my request would originate from would differ
[02:44:57] Creeves: fryguy: it's a bit black boxed for me, I don't have much more info than that
[02:45:44] Creeves: i believe it's non-routable, I definitely can't access it on the net
[02:46:21] Creeves: looks like a local IP yeah
[02:47:44] Creeves: this is a university's vpn so that will be fun to get support for -.-
[02:47:47] Creeves: thanks for the help guys
[02:49:34] Creeves: they tell us to use the cisco anyconnect vpn client to connect which is auto configured before download
[02:49:40] Creeves: I'll have a quick look at it's settings to see now
[02:52:00] Creeves: i think it may dc me when i go off the vpn so will quit temporarily to find this out
[02:57:52] Creeves: has joined #RubyOnRails
[02:58:22] Creeves: everything i have seems to auto negotiate the connection so i'm still not sure of the VPN type though I'm guessing it's ipsec
[02:58:37] Creeves: texted my superior to ask them though
[02:59:19] Creeves: fryguy: when you say it's likely a vpn config issue, did you mean my clientside config or their VPN server config
[03:01:34] Creeves: hmm, good to know though, thanks
[03:02:00] Creeves: i'll ask my contact within the local network at the university and get them to test internally
[03:02:08] Creeves: hopefully that should isolate whether it's just me over the VPN
[03:31:48] Creeves: ebbflowgo: what rails version
[03:36:51] Creeves: i was under the impression that assets should be clientside things like javascript and css which would be dealt with by the asset pipeline in production
[03:36:58] Creeves: i may be wrong though, i'm not super knowledgable
[03:38:51] Creeves: i think i'd have a structure more like /lib/rate_limit.rb as well as /lib/assets/javascripts/some_file.js
[03:47:36] Creeves: they're different, but you don't want either one for your .rb file
[03:48:25] Creeves: i think he means lib/assets right?
[03:49:00] Creeves: ebbflowgo: put the file in the lib folder and see how it runs
[03:49:55] Creeves: ebbflowgo: generally, if the folder path has 'assets' in it, you only want to be putting things like .css and .js files in
[03:50:15] Creeves: since these are assets that are run on the client side
[03:50:21] Creeves: whereas the .rb file is run on the server side
[03:59:06] Creeves: maybe take an approach like the first answer here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/19098663/auto-loading-lib-files-in-rails-4
[03:59:33] Creeves: ie. add the directory to the config.autoload_paths and follow that naming convention
[04:01:34] Creeves: it looks like if you leave the file in lib/ then you'll be following that convention
[04:01:53] Creeves: so just assure that you've added lib to the load path
[04:03:03] Creeves: assure? ensure...
[04:04:40] Creeves: ensure is right
[04:07:29] Creeves: no worries, glad it's working :)
[05:36:14] Creeves: no return after render?
[05:36:47] Creeves: i just can't see anything wrong lol
[05:37:49] Creeves: not if you're a racehorse
[05:41:37] Creeves: yeah i found that, but i just googled it
[05:41:40] Creeves: i didn't think that counted
[05:41:54] Creeves: i feel like it wasn't what Radar wanted
[05:47:53] Creeves: is it because on the first request, we do not redirect, so the flash message stays for two requests?
[05:49:07] Creeves: and it isn't using .now right
[05:49:17] Creeves: i'm stumped
[05:50:12] Creeves: that sounds like a good answer sevenseacat
[05:54:46] Creeves: i like vim's script rating scale
[05:54:48] Creeves: http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=1567

[04:05:56] Creeves: you can also use do and end
[04:06:12] Creeves: x.each do |e|
[04:06:29] Creeves: no worries
[04:06:42] Creeves: sorry to others for spamming up the chat a bit with out single word lines haha
[04:07:05] Creeves: nahtnam: have you learned any other languages before ruby?
[04:07:59] Creeves: yeah laravel is very pretty
[04:08:32] Creeves: i was mainly asking to say that using .each like that is essentially ruby's equivalent to a foreach in php
[04:10:23] Creeves: yeah it's a little different but once you get used to it it's pretty great
[04:10:46] Creeves: i think the general convention with blocks like that is to use braces on a single line and do..end on multi lines
[04:12:21] Creeves: sevenseacat: literally?
[04:12:39] Creeves: as long as my advice isn't so bad it's entertaining
[04:13:10] Creeves: jump in any time
[04:14:30] Creeves: sevenseacat: i'm still learning too so definitely let me know if i say something that's wrong
[04:17:19] Creeves: surely googling it is fastest
[04:18:25] Creeves: ACTION looks at his own activity graph
[04:19:40] Creeves: it's cool how you can see where people have gone on holiday or just not come in for a few months
[04:21:11] Creeves: dash is osx only?
[04:21:57] Creeves: i can't have osx on my desktop, so i find it hard to get into osx only products
[04:22:56] Creeves: me too haha
[04:23:00] Creeves: not mandated
[04:23:09] Creeves: i should boot linux on it, but haven't been bothered
[04:23:21] Creeves: but it's a crackbook pro
[04:23:45] Creeves: that's really shitty
[04:23:52] Creeves: i could understand if you came in with a windows laptop
[04:23:55] Creeves: and they said that
[04:25:21] Creeves: Aeyrix, what are you using
[04:25:27] Creeves: oh osx i guess
[04:25:33] Creeves: not much left haha
[04:25:45] Creeves: i recently switched to arch from windows on my desktop
[04:25:54] Creeves: kept trying ubuntu but it had too many issues
[04:26:19] Creeves: but for dev, i was having to do everything on my laptop or on ubuntu, and it was horrible
[04:26:36] Creeves: everything runs so much nicer on arch so far
[04:26:43] Creeves: no good for games though
[04:27:33] Creeves: i don't bother with all the privacy stuff anymore really
[04:27:39] Creeves: i should... but i just can't be bothered
[04:28:23] Creeves: it will bite me on the ass when the machines take over and they know all of my secrets
[04:36:49] Creeves: i want to make a webservice that takes C code as data and compiles it to LLVM bytecode and then asm.js code which is returned
[04:36:53] Creeves: i wonder how possible this is
[04:38:25] Creeves: isn't that going to be project specific
[05:02:26] Creeves: it's always a bit sad when they don't come back
[05:22:18] Creeves: chipotle: yeah i don't fancy vomiting all over my keyboard
[05:23:03] Creeves: yeah it makes me throw up
[05:23:11] Creeves: nearly every time i had it when i was younger i did
