[16:48:55] bodie_: where'd muh pipework go

2014-05-24

[15:28:48] bodie_: how can I make a script that runs AND opens pry? i.e. I want to run a little bit of stuff and then drop into repl
[15:29:04] bodie_: for example, auth with fog
[15:29:32] bodie_: cool, thanks
[17:00:52] bodie_: is there a way to silently drop into pry? i.e. without "From line blah blah: blah blah blah"

2014-03-31

[15:51:11] bodie_: no, why? I'm just sitting down to learn it in earnest for the first time.
[16:32:01] bodie_: https://github.com/FredKSchott/CoVim nifty
[16:32:09] bodie_: oh, waseem_ why do you ask?
[16:33:23] bodie_: that's interesting. I wonder how they concluded that figure
[16:34:21] bodie_: from what I can tell, it's ridiculously efficient and pleasant to use and interactively hack with
[16:35:41] bodie_: well it's simply a Lisp that generates Java bytecode. it has good interop with Java and really simple, clean concurrency models (true threading as opposed to Go's green threads)
[16:36:10] bodie_: so you can easily pick up existing Java tools, but there's a great ecosystem of Clojure stuff out there, such as Luminus
[16:37:34] bodie_: kind of hard to explain the similarities and differences
[16:38:08] bodie_: Scala is more about dogmatic typing, Clojure is dynamically typed but can be given type hints to speed it up if needed
[16:38:37] bodie_: so it's a little like the difference between... say... Scheme and Haskell
[16:39:01] bodie_: to me, Clojure's nearest competitor is probably JRuby
[16:39:29] bodie_: Ruby has very Lisp-y aspects
[16:40:36] bodie_: http://www.luminusweb.net/ -- might be a good starting point
[16:43:01] bodie_: I'm making it sound way more complicated than it is, clojure's primary appeal is that it's really really quick and simple to use, but has good performance and epic language abstractions
[17:30:02] bodie_: HN is hilarious

[00:14:22] bodie_: think was joke
[01:10:05] bodie_: but not svelte
[01:12:13] bodie_: i stay in shape by sitting at my computer all day
[01:13:04] bodie_: he's "shapes"
[01:13:14] bodie_: that one coworker
[01:13:30] bodie_: "thanks for the candy." BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!
[13:52:28] bodie_: this is actually #pipework
[14:48:22] bodie_: i just realized i'm actually concerned about free software
[14:55:34] bodie_: i'm not sure, just concerned
[14:56:13] bodie_: i really like the idea of keeping a strong free ecosystem, and while we do have a lot, it's mostly in a grey area where a lot of nonfree software is getting built with libs
[14:56:55] bodie_: so, while the libs are free, the software isn't necessarily, especially today where practically everything is saas
[14:58:10] bodie_: i see the utility of gpl, in that it puts life into the free ecosystem, which is a socially liberating thing -- less about anarchy and more about unionization to empower people
[14:58:16] bodie_: lol, indeed
[14:58:44] bodie_: i'd love it if most people understood that they don't have to pay $400 for document processing
[14:59:05] bodie_: but it's not just about the money
[14:59:14] bodie_: well, define free
[14:59:52] bodie_: i'm working on a project management suite that's really free, but we're going to charge for it as a service
[15:00:11] bodie_: so you can manage and install it, and manage your servers, and figure out how it all fits together... or you can pay us to and get an API key, yaknow
[15:00:34] bodie_: which I think makes a lot of sense -- competition is good for business
[15:00:58] bodie_: i'd love to see it go to a place where people are modifying and playing with it -- even collaborating on it across competitors
[15:01:41] bodie_: we'll also be making a nonfree frontend which has as its aim to be the very best frontend for the software
[15:02:37] bodie_: mapbox seems to do pretty well with that model
[15:03:41] bodie_: I think what you mean by -- we're spoiled by a lot of free stuff -- is that a lot of software is trying to compete in an extremely crowded market
[15:03:52] bodie_: driving its price to zero (for a minimal featureset)
[15:08:12] bodie_: google likes to do that to screw competitors, too
[15:08:16] bodie_: they can afford to take a loss
[15:08:26] bodie_: not that i want to pay for shit
[15:08:36] bodie_: but we pay them in a different way
[18:10:49] bodie_: how about coding while you fucking sit at a desk
[18:10:51] bodie_: how novel
[18:12:49] bodie_: then lay the fuck down
[18:13:03] bodie_: i'm starting a command for the lying down desk
[18:13:11] bodie_: s/command/movement (?)
[18:13:24] bodie_: it'll be like a sensory deprivation chamber actually
[18:13:29] bodie_: you wear an oculus rift
[18:14:07] bodie_: lol that picture
[18:14:39] bodie_: i just don't see what's wrong with sitting on your ass and focusing
[18:14:51] bodie_: fads, fads everywhere
[18:15:02] bodie_: you need a break, take a damn break
[18:15:04] bodie_: i like pomodoro
[18:39:47] bodie_: sanuks.... "all the comfort of going barefoot" made me chuckle. I wore a pair of sanuks to the bone in NYC... not a great experience for my feet
[18:40:18] bodie_: loved em, but barefoot goes best with dirt.
[18:42:03] bodie_: I love the shoes, I hate walking practically barefoot in nyc.
[18:42:23] bodie_: your comment implies the problem is the shoe
[18:42:33] bodie_: i'm just saying... going barefoot isn't always comfort
[18:42:42] bodie_: barefoot lots of concrete is not fine
[18:42:47] bodie_: that's what i'm saying
[18:43:41] bodie_: I like being barefoot. I don't like walking on concrete lots barefoot.
[18:45:14] bodie_: hippies just like good things
[18:50:33] bodie_: <pipework> tubbo: In Oregon, the assholes smile back at you.
[18:51:22] bodie_: in oregon, the assholes smile at you. you smile back because you have compassion for them
[18:51:29] bodie_: then they think you're an asshole
[18:56:56] bodie_: you've never met an asshole hippie?
[18:57:02] bodie_: underexposed
[18:57:19] bodie_: I think most legit hippies are assholes
[18:57:37] bodie_: sure they seem nice enough
[18:57:56] bodie_: that's not what I said... I'm closer to hippie than anything else, really
[18:58:06] bodie_: but most hippies are assholes
[18:58:20] bodie_: well yeah
[18:58:33] bodie_: ok, then according to that definition, there are almost no legit hippies
[18:58:46] bodie_: which I'd also go with
[18:59:06] bodie_: i'm more like a disgruntled ex-hippie, lol
[18:59:41] bodie_: fair enough
[19:00:13] bodie_: oh really parndt
[19:00:21] bodie_: riddle me this: who attended the funeral
[19:00:58] bodie_: ACTION is an armchair sociopath
[19:06:01] bodie_: it can be kind of amusing to be around your friends if you're sober and they're not
[19:06:09] bodie_: it's like getting a free +20 to your IQ
[19:06:14] bodie_: not that I would ever do that for fun
[19:08:54] bodie_: that's just your fault for being beautiful
[19:21:08] bodie_: i just scientifically proved that you're an asshole
[19:21:10] bodie_: in my head
[19:21:19] bodie_: too bad I can't show you the proof
[19:39:29] bodie_: i probably would hate standing desks less if they weren't such an enormous, annoying fad
[19:39:35] bodie_: as it is, fuckem
[19:39:49] bodie_: trend slaves are tiresome
[19:40:11] bodie_: you wouldn't have a judgment about standing desks if it weren't for their trendiness
[19:40:42] bodie_: i also use windows 3.1 as my primary OS
[19:41:14] bodie_: my cousin made a 3d model of a standing-desk "chair" that I thought was pretty cool.
[19:41:51] bodie_: it's like a vertical recliner you can lean back on for a little support
[19:42:16] bodie_: get this man a medal
[19:45:16] bodie_: that's why slash gets a medal and you get a thumbs down
[19:45:42] bodie_: i still like my sensory deprivation chamber desk idea
[19:46:07] bodie_: when VR workspaces become the norm, everything will be awesomer
[19:46:16] bodie_: including the word awesomer. i'm just a trendsetter.
[19:47:37] bodie_: but see, I knowingly use it. I'm not one of those unawesomer peasants.
[19:48:02] bodie_: ACTION knows he has found context's soft spot, and now drives the blade home.
[19:48:37] bodie_: no, because that would imply it's not actually awesome, which it is
[19:51:29] bodie_: was going to say, you should switch that up. start answering with "AYO"

2014-03-27

[23:01:03] bodie_: repeating left-up-right-down gets you to 1300 something
[23:07:34] bodie_: they're supposed to vanish
[23:07:50] bodie_: I thought that too :P
[23:11:13] bodie_: i don't believe you
[23:19:12] bodie_: obviously the ideal muscular weight for a bodie_ is exactly what he weighs
[23:19:54] bodie_: lol, you're not going to guess right, though. i'm a bony mofo
[23:20:18] bodie_: i actually weigh 5 lbs
[23:20:25] bodie_: i'm made of nasa aerogel
[23:20:30] bodie_: top sekret
[23:21:52] bodie_: probably closer to like 185 190, but if i were a muscle dude, maybe 210
[23:22:22] bodie_: that would be fairly ripped but not jacked
[23:22:31] bodie_: so 200 isn't bad
