[02:49:03] boxofrox: anyone know how a controller configures ActionController::ParamsWrapper::Options with respect to the controller's associated model? i've tossed `puts` statements in the constructor of ParamsWrapper::Options, only see one log for json format for ActionController::Base, yet my PuchaseController fails to wrap the parameters--gives `purchase => {}` and indicates the ParamsWrapper options are tailored to the
[02:49:05] boxofrox: Purchase model.
[02:50:31] boxofrox: ParamsWrapper appears to be a value object, so I confused at how the options are changed without a new instance.
[02:54:16] boxofrox: strike that last bit. it's not a value object. something is changing its values through setters. gah ><
[03:09:57] boxofrox: Radar: thanks, but I'm just trying to understand how rails uses ParamWrapper, but the source hasn't been easy to understand. Now that I've corrected my assumption about the value object, I'm making progress again.
[03:15:13] boxofrox: I want to understand why all the params coming from my client aren't wrapped, and if it's necessary to use `wrap_parameters` to override the default behavior.
[03:18:23] boxofrox: i have config/initializers/wrap_parameters.rb in my repo's initial commit. i can't recall if I added it or if rails v4.1 initialized with it.
[03:20:29] boxofrox: yea, i'm working with json. it was mentioned off-hand in my initial question.
[03:21:30] boxofrox: anyway, like I told Radar, I'm making progress figuring it out, so carry on as you please.
[03:33:24] boxofrox: hello9: try a.delete_if { |x| x.id.nil? }
[03:41:07] boxofrox: ignoring him wasn't an acceptable option?
[03:42:16] boxofrox: right. and toss them out if they don't. got it.
[03:42:52] boxofrox: yes, i did notice those.
[03:43:45] boxofrox: i just didn't see it coming. i'll get over it.
[03:50:10] boxofrox: Radar: rules read and acknowledged.
[04:18:18] boxofrox: i think right mouse drag in cmd will highlight and copy.
[04:21:53] boxofrox: iamayam got it right. last tip at http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/copy-to-the-clipboard-from-the-windows-command-prompt/
[04:52:25] boxofrox: pandb: are you using rvm or rbenv?
[04:54:38] boxofrox: pandb: sounds like you're having trouble with the loadpath. perhaps this could shed some light. http://www.justinweiss.com/articles/how-do-gems-work/
[05:25:41] boxofrox: pandb: rvm may be switching your gem environment when you leave the command's directory.
[21:22:09] boxofrox: if it's going to the client, won't the client need a path from the doc root, not filesystem root?
[21:23:30] boxofrox: Papierkorb: gotcha

[00:04:57] boxofrox: anyway, thanks for the suggestions. looks like I'm trying to use `cls` before it's fully initialized. it works from a later code block.

[23:24:38] boxofrox: if I create an activerecord subclass with `Class.new(ActiveRecord::Base)`, is there something other than `table_name` I need to define to access the db using this class instance?
[23:26:21] boxofrox: automate the creation of an ActiveRecord::Base subclass that is used to retrieve values from a table in the database.
[23:29:10] boxofrox: say my DB has a table 'Things'. in Ruby 'class Things < ActiveRecord::Base; end' gives me all records with `Things.all.to_a`. I'm trying to avoid defining `Things` manually from within an extension.
[23:36:06] boxofrox: FailBit: to keep my code DRY. My project uses enums that must be defined by the user. Trying to create an extension/library that automatically loads the enumerated values. If table name isn't given, then it's computed from a field name fed into it via a #lookup method called within a Model that uses the enums to populate fields.
[23:59:32] boxofrox: FailBit: I'm trying to create my own variation of the RailsLookup gem, but I can't get `cls` from https://github.com/Nimster/RailsLookup/blob/master/lib/rails_lookup.rb#L39 to return the contents of its table.

[02:19:29] boxofrox: nvm, i answered my own question.
[02:20:12] boxofrox: isn't great when in the process of typing a question, you figure out the answer :)
[02:25:07] boxofrox: `require 'active_record'` was the answer... if anyone was wonderin

[20:27:04] boxofrox: do rails fixtures allow you to use named references with foreign keys that have custom names. I have an FK called `updated_by`, but I cannot use a label name `updated_by: jimmy` to set the id when seeding my db.
[21:25:53] boxofrox: nevermind. figured out I can use erb to assign the named reference with `<%= ActiveRecord::FixtureSet::identify(:jimmy) %> to my custom-named FK.

[21:35:24] boxofrox: in Rails 4.2, #pluralize is defined in ActionView::Helpers::TextHelper. Why am I unable to run `ActionView::Helpers::TextHelper.pluralize(...)` from within `rails console`?
[21:37:43] boxofrox: Radar: thanks. will have to read up on the difference. would `def self.pluralize` be a method on the module?
[21:38:11] boxofrox: k, at least I can tell them apart now. thanks again.
[21:45:58] boxofrox: if you want to specify a directory relative to your current working directory `pwd`.
[21:46:22] boxofrox: use ./ to refer to the cwd, use ../ to refer to the parent folder of your cwd.
[21:46:48] boxofrox: EllisTAA: some shells interpret ../ as `cd ../`
[21:47:05] boxofrox: saves you three keystrokes :)
[21:50:11] boxofrox: would .... become ../../..? ^_^
[21:51:02] boxofrox: huh, i thought zsh + zprezto would have ..., but it doesn't.

[23:18:57] boxofrox: i'm trying to write my own form builder for bootstrap 3. because it relies on html tags + css, the wrapper from field_error_proc gets in the way. I've created an initializer file to set field_error_proc to an identity function. this works for individual field tags, but content_tag still wraps its contents with a 'field_with_errors' div. is there a separate setting for content_tag?

[17:00:28] boxofrox: in Rails 4.2, where do I place my custom form builder so that it loads automatically, and can be set as the default form building using an initializer? as alluded to here -> http://stackoverflow.com/a/27992240/1149718
[17:45:34] boxofrox: is the other guy using the same version? 3.0.3
