[05:23:01] cam27: How do I find a project to work on? An open source one.
[05:43:32] cam27: There’s no read me for this Radar, but I’m in
[05:49:54] cam27: Experience, keep me developing, maybe a job. (I got a job in a Casino working on slot machines) So I don’t want to get reusty from coding
[05:52:15] cam27: I’ll try, I read about Rspec and all of that, but never been asked to do it, but I’m sure I can
[05:53:02] cam27: Actually I have some Lynda videos on it (using let and things) RSpec, Cucumber, etc

[02:44:54] cam27: If I drop a column in psql is that the same as doing it in a migration? Could I not do so many migrations then if I’m comfortable with psql?
[02:46:05] cam27: ok. Thank you
[02:54:09] cam27: I had a network issue, an upgrade to Postgres 10.1 from 9.6 issue and now I am trying to switch an old rails project over to use webpack and yarn instead of Bower and the Asset Pipeline. Switching my Jquerry stuff to React. I’m two for three so far today, but Front end stuff is not my best qualtiy lol
[02:54:44] cam27: Really don’t like JS
[02:55:05] cam27: Or front end frameworks
[02:56:22] cam27: I wanted to use Angular 4, but I’m not seeing a whole lot of free tutorials to work with yet online with Rails and Angular 4 (or 2) It all seems to be 1.5
[02:57:45] cam27: So I am thinking React, since Ember is for really big projects (according to my research) React is for small scale stuff, and Angular 1.5 is deprecated
[02:58:37] cam27: Just thinkng out loud, but what does the rails community siggest? Is Coffee and JQuerry going by the wayside?

[05:01:11] cam27: THis RSpec and Capybara stuff is confusing, is there a clear thought on when I should be using one vs the other?
[05:01:32] cam27: Or are they both intertwined
[05:08:08] cam27: They both can use my factories though right?
[05:09:01] cam27: Ok, and I’m on Capybara’s site now and it looks like this video is using out dated DSL, I think I’m going to have this working
[05:11:01] cam27: What do you use for testing?
[05:13:27] cam27: Ok. ANd I’m researching the differences of the rivers now, I was going to use poltergeist and Phantom, but not really sure why other than David Bryant’s book used them. But I wasn’t going to use Angular 1.5, I was going to try React
[05:18:10] cam27: Thanks fryguy, I’m sure I’ll figure it all out. Just need a little more hands on :)

[07:12:10] cam27: Is the heroku deployment’s source the github repo?
[07:13:46] cam27: And if so, what if I wanted to remove a file from the publics viewing eye, but Heroky depended on that file? Cause all of my secret codes and stuff are public, and if I get ignore them, then it won’t deploy to heroku
[07:22:23] cam27: There was no way around putting the devise’s secret in the config/initializer/devise file
[07:24:06] cam27: config.secret_key = ‘numbers here’
[07:26:11] cam27: Yeah, I don’t get why I would put the numbers there? is it safe?
[07:28:05] cam27: I understand using a ENV variable, it was my origional thinking of how it would be, but then the file lets me uncomment out the way I did it, so I did and then it worked, and I’m like this is going into a repo, so I ignored it, but Heroku needed it....

[21:47:51] cam27: I found an answer to my above question, which says skip sring and turbolinks on app’s setup, cause turbolinks will clash with our js and spring has a lot of issues

[01:26:44] cam27: I found it very confusing that rails controllers actions might be called new, update, destroy, but the views that need to be created might be home, about, contact. And how when making those names it automatically makes methods for them, which aren’t even needed. I don’t need a home action
[01:26:57] cam27: That confused the heck out of me for a while
[01:28:11] cam27: ok, so I do need a controller just to get to any page though. I can’t make a view and a route?
[01:31:41] cam27: So if I have this resources :products, only: [:index] does that point to the action or the view name?
[01:32:20] cam27: If I changed the view to not be index would it still work?
[01:34:25] cam27: So that’s why they are usually named the same
[01:37:37] cam27: Is there a common reason why adding an item to a shopping cart would add more than one? It used to work, but now it adds a crazy amount to my basket, I’ve been into logs and console, not sure why
[01:38:22] cam27: I hate the way this project was built by the tutorial, and I am monkey patching everything
[01:39:39] cam27: I went on Lynda and wtched a lot of videos, so I am going to start trying RSpec testing right now. it’s such a weird DSL though
[01:40:38] cam27: That was what I was thinking it was too, but it doesn’t seem to be the case, maybe it is the rubo links. It broke after installing Braintree
[01:41:53] cam27: I’m going to try disabling the script tags that Radar’s page to me to install lol :)
[01:42:24] cam27: could be that turbo-links part
[01:50:48] cam27: Yup, this broke it 11 <script src="https://js.braintreegateway.com/v2/braintree.js"></script>
[01:54:42] cam27: no, but it actually might not be that.
[01:55:35] cam27: I deleted browser history and it works, but I think after I pay for this and run it again, then it will be dopey again and count will go from 1 to 4 with each item added
[01:56:43] cam27: So I know that the basket works properly, but somewhere it gets weird and just starts adding differnt amounts the next time and not even the same amount each time I click it
[01:58:13] cam27: Yup that is the problem. it works until after my checkout, then I’m not destroying the order_id properly or something related to that
[02:00:32] cam27: I want to empty my current_order helper method, and I was going to do dependent destroy on the Order’s Order_items in the Order controller.
[02:01:12] cam27: SO If I remove all order_items, will I have to do anything with the current order_id?
[02:02:53] cam27: Me neither
[02:03:04] cam27: Sorry about that, I know it’s not that clear
[02:03:45] cam27: Basically, I have a Transactions Controller that I think needs a destroy method to remove all of the items from the order after the purchase
[04:40:37] cam27: Remote host closed the connection
