[02:01:49] cmckee: Anybody having problems with bootstrap gem latley?
[07:18:50] cmckee: Question about writing your own Authentication? Should I use has_secure_password and bcrypt or what I currently have implimented is a password_hash and password_salt in the database. Im just curious what the best implimentation is?
[07:23:58] cmckee: Anyone? Im using bcrypt for both password encryption in the database. They just go about it differently. Whats the rails 4 preferd method?
[07:42:57] cmckee: Can someone help me? Im writing an authentication from scratch. This is the method im using. https://gist.github.com/cmckee-dev/e92d3cb6783906679b3f Im reading up and has_secure_password uses a different method, which on is prefered or more secure?

[19:57:20] cmckee: Some of you mid to senior level guys, Do you ???Roll your own??? authentication for projects? Or just use Devise or similar gem.
[20:01:07] cmckee: What times would you go with your own vs devise? I finished a final project and throughout the project Devise was always causing problems. And devise caused the app to have long render times.
[20:02:09] cmckee: Is it an experiance with devise thing to get those monkey patches working clean?
[20:05:04] cmckee: I was under a time constraint for school and devise had been implimented already. Didnt quite have the luxury of going back and coding one from scratch. I also was integrating the Github API and for whatever reason I needed to write blocks of code to get the two working together.
[20:06:04] cmckee: I was just curious what the general feeling for ???Roll your own??? vs a gem was.
[20:06:13] cmckee: Yeah I had omniauth integrated as well
[20:09:28] cmckee: Ive only been coding since August so it very well could have been my lack of knowledge. But I did see alot of problems related to Devise ???playing nice??? and latley ive seen comments and articles saying implementing your own with the 4.1 stuff is a good option.
[20:10:03] cmckee: Just wanted to know how you guys felt.
[20:11:11] cmckee: Thanks Radar and Tubbo

[11:11:37] cmckee: Im trying to get fullcalendar working for my rails 4 project. Anybody had experiance with this. Its basically saying fullcalendar files dont exsist and when better_errors doesnt flag anything its not rendering anything.
[11:12:30] cmckee: Ive tried adding files to assets or vendor assets. Tried the gem.
[11:14:28] cmckee: less problems witht the gem then? Gem doesnt want to load the files either.
[11:15:26] cmckee: /= require fullcalendar
[11:17:16] cmckee: Yeah. Its been taunting me all night. I know its something simple
[11:20:11] cmckee: Better errors is flagging ???File to import not found or unreadble: fullcalendar.???
[11:23:24] cmckee: Oh the most crucial >:[ Lol. Same page. Bust barley bundled and started new branch 5seconds before you suggested
[11:23:49] cmckee: Lets see how this goes, if I run into the same ol??? stuff
[11:25:28] cmckee: Well yeah. checked out master and made new branch.
[11:27:52] cmckee: Yes. Nuked the brach and started over
[11:29:38] cmckee: Not quite there. adding model and controller stuff
[11:31:07] cmckee: This better_errors isnt so much better
[11:31:32] cmckee: now its saying ???couldn???t find file ???fullcalendar???
[11:32:37] cmckee: shows its there
[11:36:58] cmckee: for the application.css.scss is there a prefered order for the requires?
[11:37:11] cmckee: for self tree ect.
[11:41:14] cmckee: stylesheet
[11:41:38] cmckee: Well it keeps going back and forth.
[11:42:15] cmckee: So I moved the full calendar require on the css below the self require. and now its flaggin Js
[11:59:59] cmckee: Fixed it Mike
[12:01:06] cmckee: I dont have a damn clue how either. lol
[12:01:14] cmckee: Thanks though
[20:53:05] cmckee: Hey guys, better errors keeps flagging reserved word ???function??? in my $(document).ready(function() {
[20:53:41] cmckee: What would the reason be for the falg?
[21:05:30] cmckee: tubbo: Better_errors stoped flagging it, but now its just not rendering
[21:09:22] cmckee: haha. Yeah give me a sec
[21:13:48] cmckee: tubbo: https://gist.github.com/cmckee-dev/ae43faf557c108c892da
[21:17:45] cmckee: tubbo: how so
[21:20:56] cmckee: sailias: Oh okay. I see. Thanks
[21:24:29] cmckee: tubbo: I missed something?
[21:29:30] cmckee: Oh! I gotcha now. Yeah, much easier.
[21:30:02] cmckee: sailias: No not working. Still isnt rendering the actual calendar view.
[21:33:37] cmckee: sailias: Double checked the code on that. Seems to be right.
[21:35:39] cmckee: sailias: Im not sure what im missing. Chrome dev tools shows that the fullcalendar files are being loaded. So the CSS and JS should be there. Ive tried $(???#calendar???).fullcalendar(???render???); to force it. Just not sure what im not seeing
[21:43:39] cmckee: sailias: Not a problem. Thanks for the help though.
[21:44:30] cmckee: sailias: Its just one of those stupid things that you work on for hours and once its fixed you hate yourself for.

[16:28:53] cmckee: Server is being weird. Did anybody see my issue
[16:29:23] cmckee: Thought so.
[16:29:34] cmckee: trying to join the #rubyonrails channel but it keeps telling me I need to register. After a few google searches I havent gotten anywhere. Anybody know what might be going on?
[16:29:55] cmckee: From any channel?
[16:30:20] cmckee: Because when joining rails it doesnt even get to that point
[16:30:38] cmckee: Thanks rpag and haven
[16:37:57] cmckee: I really like rubymonk
[16:39:29] cmckee: Theres also rubykoans and learnrubythehardway
[16:39:57] cmckee: Yes. Documentation, Read it. And Pry is my savior
[17:31:15] cmckee: Haven or rpag. Still having troubles with registering for Rubyonrails channel. Haha. Im missing something here. \msg rubyonrails REGISTER #rubyonrails
[17:31:21] cmckee: Or something similar right?
[17:32:45] cmckee: Excellent. Thanks
[17:33:29] cmckee: Nickserv thats my name to be registered, correct?
[17:36:31] cmckee: Haven: Got it now. Thanks. I did that before but I was doing something wrong. Fat fingers or who knows?
[18:34:33] cmckee: When dealing with Migrations is it better to add a migration to change the tables, or just edit the one you want changed
[18:36:22] cmckee: And what would the command be rails g migration XXX_Something_to_Change?
[18:38:32] cmckee: Mike: Thanks
[18:38:41] cmckee: helpa: Thanks

[07:45:32] cmckee: Hes so frustrated over this bit of code.
[07:46:27] cmckee: Python dev trying to tackle ruby and Rails for first time.
[12:18:32] cmckee: Question about rails engines. Anybody had much experiance with them?
[12:21:41] cmckee: I???ll have to check out the rails channel as well.
[12:26:20] cmckee: For learning experiences, im trying to replicate a devise user auth system. I stumbled onto engines and component based rails. If im creating the users model and pssword hasing method or anything else that would fall under the same thing. Would I have to use Warden to get the associations between engines or apps. Or is there a way I can have other compents grab info. example current_user methods, or the created session.
