[17:02:03] dipnlik: anyone here managed to install the tiny_tds gem in Ubuntu? already installed freetds-dev via apt, but gem cannot detect it is installed. don't know freetds location in my machine to instruct the gem like I do with the mysql gem

[16:38:49] dipnlik: is there a better way to write `Model.where(conditions).pluck(:an_attribute).first` when `conditions` always point to a single record?
[16:48:32] dipnlik: but that changes the SQL query
[16:49:45] dipnlik: yes. pluck does select.an_attribute, find_by does select.*
[16:51:02] dipnlik: not sure. I know there's some big columns in this table, but didn't compare enough since I'm new to this project
[16:53:39] dipnlik: don't want an "aesthetic" code change to affect performance, that's why I want to keep the query the same if I proceed with the change
[17:15:38] dipnlik: kurko_: `Model.select(:an_attribute).find_by(conditions)` does what I wanted, thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

[13:38:02] dipnlik: hi, i’m trying to better understand nginx and rails and make sure assets are not served by the rails app. at the moment when I load a page in the rails app, it loads no assets, and the app logs show ActionController::RoutingError for each asset. current nginx setup is https://gist.github.com/dipnlik/97bd16d8261d2a916b3e827142b4708e any glaring mistakes there? anywhere else I should look into? any tips are welcome

[14:59:39] dipnlik: hi all. i have a few rails apps that are still running in ruby 2.0.0, any upgrade tips/tutorials are welcome. should I go straight to 2.3? anything special I should look for?

[15:07:16] dipnlik: rvm user here. running as we speak, already fixed a few warnings. hope this test suite is good enough :)
[15:08:45] dipnlik: havenwood: running my specs in 2.3.0, so far so good

[15:53:33] dipnlik: sevenseacat: how do you compare r4ia to agile web development with rails? consider that i read the latter at rails 3 and skimmed through the rails 4 version
[16:04:44] dipnlik: sevenseacat: I don’t remember having issues with awdwr but it’s been a while. will take a peek at your book. thank you :)

[17:20:16] dipnlik: hi. i have a gem that has really big fixtures (400mb+ currently). one of the consequences is that when I bundle other projects that include this gem, it takes a long time downloading these unneeded fixtures. any ideas to solve this issue?
[17:33:13] dipnlik: jhass: they were put in the repo because they weren???t so big, but now we need to remove them
[17:35:30] dipnlik: jhass: good idea, definitely. will look into that. thanks!
[17:35:38] dipnlik: jhass: would you store them in S3?
[17:55:45] dipnlik: jhass: didn???t know that rule, sorry
