[15:33:54] dps: Can somebody tell me the best way to deal with relation being empty in a select, i.e. '<%= f.collection_select(:fas_accounts_users_id, @asset.billable_entity.user....' where billable entity may be null?

[15:34:32] dps: epochwork

[15:35:36] dps: yeah i have read the api doc for that

[15:36:43] dps: in case it is null, which i think is kind of crazy

[17:49:36] dps: Does anybody here know a lot about HTML audio controls? I am trying to utilize data-turbolinks-permanent in Turbolinks 3.0 to allow continous play of audio across page loads, but whenever I change pages the audio stops. The position of the track is retained. I'm trying to figure out why play is interrupted.

[19:59:20] dps: I have what is perhaps a dumb question: is it stupid to try to implement the partial replacement capabilities of turbolinks 3.0 to leverage rails as a SPA architectural design?

[15:41:46] dps: Happy memorial day :-) Is it possible to configure WEBRick to serve files with an extension of svgz to include a HTTP Header of "Content-Encoding: gzip" in the HTTP response?
[15:42:38] dps: foucusist i'm just using it for development
[15:43:07] dps: alright ill guess i try that
[15:43:16] dps: im still curious if its possible to do this
[15:43:24] dps: im running into headaches with using svgz files
[15:43:50] dps: for example i want to serve them via cloudfront, i can use asset_sync to get the asset up to the bucket but S3 isn't setting the meta properties ont he svgz asset as well
[15:44:01] dps: I was going to start with my local dev instance and work my way to cloudfront
[15:44:20] dps: i can deterministically set the metaproperties on the object on the bucket itself but i want it to happen automatically when i sync my assets
[15:46:49] dps: irrep im not an expert on this but i'd reccomend using gem to install rails if you are beginner, the system packages will probably be out of date, use gem and a Gemfile to manage your version of rails if you are first getting started
[15:49:50] dps: irrep if you want to compartmentalize your dependency installations take a look at rvm or rbenv
[15:50:02] dps: using these will keep your system clean
[16:06:08] dps: brandon: dumb question; sorry im being lazy. is there a full configuration spec for thin? it does not serve svgz with content-enoding http headers. I am looking at the sample configuration here https://github.com/macournoyer/thin/ but it doesn't show me how to modify meta-types?
[16:09:16] dps: brandon ok thank you.

[15:11:32] dps: n/m answer to my question : gem dependency paperclip -v 4.0.0 -r

[00:19:58] dps: I have what I think is a simple question. I am posting a form via AJAX (and doing validation by returning status 422 if validation failed so forth, i.e. form is returning JSON). Basically what I want to do is have a route that is 'protected' so that on success, I am redireted to the new route. But I want to enforce that the route can only be traversed upon successful form submission. Is this possible?
[00:20:32] dps: The only strategy I can think of (I am creating an object) is to create the object with a GUID and then have the route with an :id in it, but I think this is kind of sloppy
[00:21:10] dps: That's a good idea. You're a pro Radar (obviously).
[00:21:13] dps: Thank you for your help.
[00:21:51] dps: i'm aware
[00:22:04] dps: he's helped me before and ive seen him on stack exchange everywhere

[20:40:38] dps: I have a noob question. I've overridden my to_json and as_json methods on a child model (to render paperclip urls as json). It works fine. When I call the as_json from the parent model and include the child with the overridden method, i.e. SwagProduct.first.as_json(:include => :swag_product_pictures), it doesn't appear to be honoring my to_json or as_json overridden methods. It uses the default json renderer. Would somebody be able to tell me why

[21:10:58] dps: are there any good gems for rails that allow a user to build user definable queries? kind of like web-based business intelligence via active record?
[21:12:40] dps: well basically like allowing users to build user-defined queries via either drag and drop of attributes, or something like a 'query builder'
[21:13:02] dps: basically an advanced query tool
[21:13:11] dps: or a flexible query generation tool
[21:13:13] dps: a user friendly one
[21:13:29] dps: i didnt find one either
[21:13:30] dps: thank you

[01:54:59] dps: Hi. I have a dumb question. I am running a query in sqlite and using find_by_sql (the same query) and getting different results. Is that to be expected? Here is the query I am running: select * from commands LEFT OUTER JOIN tagmapsorters ON tagmapsorters.command_id = commands.id WHERE tagmapsorters.tag_id is NULL;
[01:55:11] dps: sqlite returns the correct result but activerecord does not :(
[02:01:26] dps: shnobi_one- the gist as you requested : https://gist.github.com/dsulli99/8610635
[02:01:42] dps: rhizome: what you sent me does not work, although thank you for trying to help me
[02:02:32] dps: I get: NameError: undefined local variable or method `command_id' for main:Object
[02:02:53] dps: im basically trying to find all of the instances of a HABTM that don't have an association
[02:03:16] dps: I believe the native SQL in my gist works, but when I try to execute it in rails it doesn't return the correct result
[02:03:20] dps: it returns nil
[02:03:58] dps: well, can't you execute via find_by_sql?
[02:04:15] dps: that is what i tried to do
[02:04:34] dps: shinobi_one, its the only solution that i have hope will work
[02:06:44] dps: centrx i'm not getting the same result, the created_at, updated_at, and id are nil when queried via activerecord
[02:06:53] dps: shinbi: precisely
[02:07:13] dps: i would think they wold be correct because I am selecting all columns on the table
[02:07:45] dps: shinobi it is my understanding that doing this type of query is not possible using AR without using a gem
[02:09:23] dps: centrx i tried that i could get it to work. my original query is this (this actually works but throws a bunch of deprecation warnings): Command.find(:all, :include => :tags, :conditions => { "tagmapsorters.tag_id" => nil}).count
[02:11:15] dps: centrx i will futz around with what you described and see if i can get it to work
[02:11:18] dps: thank yo ufor your help
[02:11:30] dps: shinobi also i am sorry this is my first week or so using rails
[02:11:36] dps: i really have no idea what i am doing
[02:12:33] dps: i am using rails 4.0
[02:12:46] dps: ACTION is abreast to the latest and greatest of information technology
[02:14:49] dps: i have looked at it some yes, but i am a slow learner and it takes a while for me to understand things
[02:14:55] dps: i am an amateur at relational data modeling
[02:15:25] dps: i wish i was smarter and could learn faster but i am trying to pick up on this regardless
[02:15:38] dps: luckily i am doing this for a hobby so i don't really have any pressure or timelines or anything like that
[02:16:18] dps: thank you for helping me centrx you are always very nice and helpful to me
[02:21:10] dps: btw centrx, what you supplied worked: Command.joins("LEFT OUTER JOIN tagmapsorters ON tagmapsorters.command_id = commands.id").where("tagmapsorters.tag_id is NULL")
[02:21:11] dps: thank you :-)
