[20:27:49] gurnoorinder: hello everyone. Can anyone tell me which is the most suitable version of ruby for dev on mac os 10.6.8
[20:28:08] gurnoorinder: i tried downloading 2.2.2 and it failed to complue. using chruby and ruby-install
[20:28:43] gurnoorinder: jhass: okay. 2.2.3?
[20:29:16] gurnoorinder: jhass: and incase it fails to install. any alternative version?
[20:30:21] gurnoorinder: i did brew doctor. resolved all the issues. it needs xcode 3.2.6 which i am downloading right now.
[20:31:50] gurnoorinder: havenwood: good to see you again. i did and brew said everything is up to date.
[20:31:55] gurnoorinder: will do it again havenwood
[20:40:31] gurnoorinder: havenwood: but i am still using 10.6.8 and thats the max i can use on this version of mac os i think
[20:40:59] gurnoorinder: havenwood: somehow i am not able to install ruby versions more than 2.1.3 using chruby
[20:42:11] gurnoorinder: okay. i willl try
[20:42:44] gurnoorinder: havenwood: miah: i had 2.2.2 via rvm. now that i switched to chruby, there seems to be a problem
[20:43:28] gurnoorinder: miah: maybe i will do that pretty soon if it doesnt work for me
[20:44:27] gurnoorinder: miah: i had deleted everything from mac. and i ma now making a fresh install
[20:45:40] gurnoorinder: oops havenwood i just ran "brew install gcc"
[20:46:00] gurnoorinder: alright. will keep a check on that
[20:46:50] gurnoorinder: havenwood: thanks. got it.
[20:47:19] gurnoorinder: miah: is upgrading the os worth it? i tried upgrading it once and it really screwed my system. it only has 4 gig of ram.
[20:47:49] gurnoorinder: havenwood: do u use a mac?
[21:01:44] gurnoorinder: havenwood: so if i get 8 gig of ram total and upgrade it to yosemite, will it serve the purpose? and no performance issues?
[21:02:42] gurnoorinder: miah: thanks a lot
[21:03:36] gurnoorinder: miah: i will take care of that

I have RVM and RBENV and Homebrew all installed. what my concern is that having both RVM and RBENV a good idea or not? And can they both in some way mess up the environment.? if i want to remove one which one should i remove? will the removal also affect Ruby and Rails installat
[21:18:41] gurnoorinder: and if i just remove RVM and rbenv will it also remove ruby and rails?
[21:19:52] gurnoorinder: can you guide me to removing everything? rbenv, rvm, homebrew, ruby and rails
[21:20:39] gurnoorinder: thank you guys

[21:27:43] gurnoorinder: @havenwood y?
[21:28:48] gurnoorinder: @havenwood i will give it a try
[21:29:21] gurnoorinder: @havenwood: what happens to ruby and rails versions that i installed using RVM or Rbenv once i remove both?
[21:39:21] gurnoorinder: hello everyone. I just removed RVM from my Mac, will it any way affect ruby or rails versions?
[21:39:36] gurnoorinder: i had both rbenv and rvm

[21:08:18] gurnoorinder: anything else that you guys wud suggest?

[09:50:29] gurnoorinder: Hey, can anyone explain me what does S.unshift do.
[09:51:29] gurnoorinder: missed the dollar sign
[09:52:19] gurnoorinder: actually this is what i wanted to ask
[09:52:21] gurnoorinder: $:.unshift File.dirname(__FILE__)
[09:52:51] gurnoorinder: yea i have an idea what load path is
[09:56:53] gurnoorinder: somewhat. but if you cud explain. that wud be better
[09:58:46] gurnoorinder: i got that. but i am not able to figure out how it works with the following code
[09:59:47] gurnoorinder: $:.unshift File.dirname(__FILE__)
[10:00:02] gurnoorinder: i know what it does. but need little bit more clarity
[10:01:50] gurnoorinder: i know that it provides a path of the files where ruby needs to look while running a program
[10:03:33] gurnoorinder: so is there anything else as well that, that code does ?
[10:04:00] gurnoorinder: does it do anything else as well?

[10:05:43] gurnoorinder: i think i got it
[10:07:56] gurnoorinder: i have used java

[10:30:03] gurnoorinder: alright. i have done couple of tutorials already on ruby
[10:30:48] gurnoorinder: @jhass: codecademy, lean ruby the hard way, try ruby and nor doing lynda.com's ruby essential training
