[07:03:09] kfrz: Hello, all! I'm in need of some junior level help
[07:03:26] kfrz: I have a NoMethodError undefined coming at me on my rails 3.2 app. Gist incoming
[07:04:38] kfrz: https://gist.github.com/kfrz/174f2a59b74bf74a9447
[07:08:33] kfrz: sevenseacat: I'm getting no route errors
[07:09:53] kfrz: refresh the gist
[07:16:03] kfrz: Ok, but localhost:3000/new brings me a status 500/ NoMethodError (undefined method 'accept' for nil:NilClass)
[07:16:10] kfrz: ln 18 of the users_controller
[07:16:45] kfrz: Thanks by the way for pointing that out - sometimes I simply don't SEE a line of code when it's been hours
[07:17:55] kfrz: see that's what I thought - I think maybe User.find_by_email is coming back nil
[07:18:12] kfrz: but I don't know for certain. I wish I knew how to "Step through" code like in Visual Studio
[07:18:36] kfrz: It's for a client. Can I private message you?
[07:19:00] kfrz: I think I did that?
[07:25:05] kfrz: sevenseacat: I set config.log_level = :debug and all my browser shows at /new is "We're sorry, but something went wrong." the rails server log is gisted.
[07:25:56] kfrz: What's the warrant?
[07:26:15] kfrz: I should just scrap it and start from scratch
[07:26:30] kfrz: I'm just trying to do simple email referral tracking
[07:30:36] kfrz: I get the feeling that devise is going to do most of what I need here - am I thinking the right direction?

[14:02:25] kfrz: Hi, I'm wondering how to properly manage ruby on OSX El Capitan. I'm a developer, but I'm transitioning to separating all of my projects into Docker containers for many reasons. I'm now more concerned with how to manage local rubys, for example if I want to gem install tmuxinator I get permissions errors
[14:02:35] kfrz: which ruby is /usr/local/bin/ruby - is that accurate?

[15:33:59] kfrz: Where can I find some benchmarks on raw speed js vs ruby
[15:35:54] kfrz: sorry, I mean, general benchmarks for general algorithms
[15:36:02] kfrz: if it exists
[15:36:34] kfrz: Fair, fair
[15:36:44] kfrz: I'm just learning so curious
[16:03:04] kfrz: havenwood: very interesting.... I like Ruby over JS because of the community, open-nature of everything and multiple paths to success
[16:03:16] kfrz: so these ruby sub-languages are very very interesting to dig through

[01:43:12] kfrz: Hello, I'm a noob, working my way through the Hartl tutorial Twitter clone. Is there a way to list all the gems I have installed? I'm using homebrew, rvm and git
[01:44:26] kfrz: update: hammer worked
[01:45:33] kfrz: thank you
[01:45:39] kfrz: is it weird to say I love vim?
[01:46:34] kfrz: I really like not having to remove my hands from the keyboard to do anything, so vim has been instrumental. haha
[01:47:16] kfrz: nah, simple is better - its all about getting code that does something for me
[01:47:20] kfrz: tools are tools are tools
[01:56:39] kfrz: is it appropriate to ask puppet questions here? I'm trying to provision a vagrant box so I can work somewhat isolated from my actual machine
[01:57:12] kfrz: thanks - is ##devops a general dev chan?
[01:57:23] kfrz: i apologize for my nubness
[02:30:27] kfrz: im getting zero response in #puppet and ##devops - as well as no google luck - any advice on provisioning a standard rails vagrant box
[02:30:41] kfrz: and making it run so i can test thru my browser?
[02:45:11] kfrz: is there anything i need to do to remove all of a RoR app and start from scratch - other than just rm -rf the /app_dir/ >
[03:32:52] kfrz: is it a good idea to use the same database (sqlite3/pg) for development and production?
[03:33:18] kfrz: is postgre > sqlite?
[03:33:25] kfrz: i know heroku needs pg
[03:34:42] kfrz: so i just remove gem 'sqlite' from my gemfile
[03:34:51] kfrz: and replace it with pg
[03:46:17] kfrz: I keep getting a bundler error when i try to install pg
[03:46:52] kfrz: that's an awesome bot
[03:47:36] kfrz: i dont think its installed at all
[03:47:44] kfrz: i just did brew install pg
[03:48:04] kfrz: Make sure that `gem install pg -v '0.18.1'` succeeds before bundling.
[03:48:04] kfrz: An error occurred while installing pg (0.18.1), and Bundler cannot continue.
[03:48:23] kfrz: excuse me
[03:48:51] kfrz: https://gist.github.com/kfrz/2e197ef4932bbe78e437
[03:50:54] kfrz: ive been trying to reconfigure my entire setup today
[03:53:40] kfrz: its most likely a config error with my dev environment
[03:53:54] kfrz: is there a way to ensure all my ruby/rails ducks are in a row?
[03:56:21] kfrz: or maybe idk what you mea
[03:57:04] kfrz: Radar: is there a trick to completely removing RVM?
[03:57:10] kfrz: or is implode it
[04:01:49] kfrz: i just dont know enough about the operating system's workings to feel comfortable switching stuff around - once i get something working i try not to tweak it... but i know this is a bad approach
[04:06:56] kfrz: still no luck with bundler, its still trying to use both of those versions
[04:10:57] kfrz: 2.0 and 2.2
[04:13:55] kfrz: https://gist.github.com/kfrz/2e197ef4932bbe78e437
[04:13:58] kfrz: still givin me that problem
[04:14:13] kfrz: how is this going to help me?
[04:14:37] kfrz: story of my f-in day

[04:19:01] kfrz: krz: did you see the gist?

[04:20:34] kfrz: and come back, maybe ill see something clearer. thanks for the pointers so far guize
