[01:21:49] Scriptonaut: hey guys, I'm using JWT.encode and passing it a record id. It is generating the same key (as it should), however I've noticed when I restart my console, it will sometimes generate a different key. It only ever generates those two keys (with the same exactly input), one or the other, and I have to restart the console to get it to change (and it doesn't always)
[01:22:19] Scriptonaut: JWT.encode is supposed to generate the same thing every time, as long as the input is the same, but for some reason it's not

[11:23:41] canton7: and the W3C validator validates it fine
[11:24:38] canton7: huh, and when I run the snipped you posted, it returns "<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN\" \"http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body>\n<a href=\"http://google.de\"></a><table><tr><td><span>Test<span></span></span></td></tr></table>\n</body></html>\n"

[20:10:27] miah: afternoon =)
[20:10:37] tpanarch1st: would you say these instructons are alright for setting up an area on my mint install to play with rails? Thanks :) https://github.com/coder-academy-students/rails-setup-for-linux
[20:12:01] miah: ya they are probably fine
[20:12:37] tpanarch1st: ah that's awesome - i presume it won't change my mint install in any other way and that i'll be able to use Gems and suchlike properly :)
[20:13:09] tpanarch1st: from what i've read, it sets up an isolated way and a "controller" (of sorts) to deal with ruby commands and keep them away from the rest of the mint stuff in shell :)
[20:15:55] miah: no idea, i have never used mint. you might find better answers for mint questions in a mint channel
[20:16:10] tpanarch1st: yeah, there's certainly a bit of cross-over there
[20:16:15] tpanarch1st: ah Mint won't go bang will it :-D
[20:16:20] miah: but as far as setting up a basic ruby / rails environment that looks fine
[20:16:56] tpanarch1st: what surprised me is that ruby relies on node.js in linux
[20:17:07] miah: it does not
[20:17:33] miah: rails might, but ruby itself does not
[20:17:39] tpanarch1st: sorry, to rephrase, for some packages that Ruby **uses**
[20:17:55] tpanarch1st: i'll get it right eventually :-D
[20:17:56] miah: that rails uses =) likely rails is using it to minify js and such
[20:18:14] miah: sure, good luck!

[20:19:15] tpanarch1st: thanks miah !

[22:20:03] lbracher: Hi there! I'm moving an Passenger installation from one server to another, and in this moving the application is entering an infinite loop. I'm really clueless.
[22:20:36] lbracher: The only relevant line on log that I could get was this: Could not spawn process for application /var/www/EletroGuimaraes: The application encountered the following error: stack level too deep (SystemStackError). Error ID: cecc6a10
[22:22:10] lyusternik: stack too deep sounds like infinite recursion
[22:26:16] lbracher: lyusternik, yes, indeed. The curious thing is the application is still running fine on old server. I think I'll poke around with ruby versions and hope for the best.
[22:26:38] lyusternik: you probably already knew that
[22:27:10] lbracher: lyusternik, I'm a ruby newbie. ;)
[22:27:26] lyusternik: I haven't really worked with it much either
[22:27:38] lyusternik: all of my ruby has been doing CTF cryptography challenges
[22:27:49] lyusternik: because the OpenSSL API is actually pretty usable.
[22:27:55] lyusternik: in Ruby, I mean

[22:30:40] skywalker: do we have any method as define in C/C++ in ruby?
[22:30:45] havenwood: lbracher: We might be able to spot something useful if you can share the full stack trace?
[22:31:08] skywalker: i want to interpolate values in regex (actually with puppet)
[22:32:04] havenwood: skywalker: You want to interpolate the return value of a C function in a Ruby Regexp?
[22:32:45] havenwood: skywalker: Are you familiar with Fiddle in the Ruby stdlib?

[22:33:42] havenwood: skywalker: https://docs.ruby-lang.org/en/2.6.0/Fiddle.html
[22:34:12] skywalker: havenwood: oh, not really. i want to do something like: $pattern = "^[abc]" so, i want to use it like /${pattern}+(foo|bar)$/
[22:35:18] havenwood: skywalker: Regexp.union '^[abc]', /(foo|bar)/
[22:35:31] havenwood: skywalker: You can also interpolate directly into a Regexp.
[22:35:48] havenwood: skywalker: Oh, you don't want I union, I guess.
[22:36:03] havenwood: skywalker: But yes, you can interpolate as you showed.
[22:36:21] skywalker: i will try that, thanks
[22:37:52] lbracher: havenwood, here's apache2 error.log: https://dpaste.de/dhkX
[22:40:02] havenwood: lbracher: Is $HOME set to a dir that doesn't exist?: https://github.com/phusion/passenger/issues/1740
[22:40:54] SeepingN: oh man, don't do that
[22:41:20] lbracher: havenwood, the directory exists
[22:42:09] lbracher: I think I will rollback ruby's version and gems on Gemfile
[22:42:15] lbracher: Thank you anyway! :)
[22:42:59] baweaver: skywalker: Explain what it does, and what problem you're trying to solve?

[22:44:12] phaul: I was on your twitch yesterday expecting the TracePoint thing...
[22:44:46] baweaver: &>> ['|', *('a'..'z')].values_at(1, 0, 1..3, 0, 20..22, 0, 5..8)

[22:44:59] baweaver: Ack, thought I made the future part clear :/
[22:46:27] baweaver: Sorry about that phaul. It's on the 26th.
[22:46:48] baweaver: I'm going to do something either really fun or incredibly stupid with it though
[22:47:04] baweaver: Freeform content, I'm not allowed to study TracePoint before I do it.
[22:47:20] Iambchop: lbracher: I know it says warning not error, but it might still be fatal: "WARNING: potential privilege escalation vulnerability detected."
[22:47:23] phaul: ah. the reddit timezone bot screwed up. I trusted it
[22:47:28] baweaver: So you all get to see me tinkering
[22:47:55] phaul: Your post is ok, the bot linked bad countdown
[22:48:03] baweaver: Priv escalation is nasty stuff
[22:48:11] baweaver: Huh, didn't notice that comment.
[22:48:14] baweaver: Silly thing
[22:56:55] lbracher: Iambchop, thank you. I'll try this hypothesis too. :)
